"Worth movie"; typo.
[started a thread for once! omglol1z and all the assorted comments]
What I really want to know is how much money it made in Japan, actually.
Also, is it really that bad? For me it smells like something of a critic backlash or too much reference back to daddy Miyazaki, or it might as well be worse than those crappy, average teen angst movies Japan produces in excess, which speaks of a colossal disaster...

Wow. I rode in a French magazine that the movie was overally decent but really did nothing great, but to win that "Rasperry Award"? I mean, I thought it would be an okay butchering of a book (Because it's based on a book, right?) like some other film a recently saw. I really wouldn't have expected it to be that "bad", anyway.

Oh wow...this is really sad, I mean "worst director" & "movie". I haven't actually seen his movie but man...Could it be that it was a good movie, and it's just hard to live up to everybody's expectations, as son of the great "Hayao Miyazaki". I think that his son has it in him to make good movies[after all he has it in his genes], it's just that he lives on the shadow of his father. It's like Hayao's past achivements are great, so matter how good he[son] is, some people can't help but say "It's still not as good as his father's". Plus, maybe people expect wayy too much from him[son].
[maybe they just have different styles, when it comes to animation/visual arts]

I'd have to agree with Samurai-with-glasses. All I've heard about Gedo Senki was that it was good, but not quite Hayao Miyazaki level. It's likely the critics were just comparing Gedo Senki with other Ghibli works, and were disappointed. But even if that was true, I can't see professional critics being so biased.

At first i thought this was a joke gone too far. I mean worst film? worst director? it made so much money though! I guess it was one of those: everyone has to see what the son can do for themseleves type thing.
personally i don't think the movie could be that bad and it makes me a bit sad because 1. We probably won't get to see it now and 2. That probably was a huge blow to his self esteem.
I hope he does another movie.
I think people went to the movie with high high expectations. This was his first movie right? He's not his father. Too bad people probably can't except that. I wonder if he had made this movie under a different name would the press have been this bad.
We may never know.

I thought Tom Hanks winning the Worst Actor Award was funnier. Da Vinci Code was a huge let down...
Earthsea...this isn't the anime version of the Earthsea that was on the Scifi channel is it...

So would their reactions have been different had Hayao done it then? That is one of the most stupidest things I could hear.

Hahaha, yeah.. I didn't even see that movie. [i'm Roman Catholic] lol. That movie was very controversial, It was even banned from my country [Philippines-mostly Roman Catholics,Christians]. It was said that the content was unacceptable, and that it might sway weak juveniles beliefs. Plus, it was very critical towards the bible.
EDIT**[BTW, this is OT but WOW! there's like 14 news topics today. Is it me? or is it a lot more than usual. It's a good thing.

Pretty harsh. I too am having trouble believing it tops the list of worst movies in JPN. The people who voted for this, must have had a BIG grudge against Goro's privileged entrance into anime film making.
Or it may suck, I don't know, haven't seen it.
But it is a Ghibli product???
Anyway I too am pleased of the Da Vinci code nod.

Yeah, they're based on the same story, but I believe they both adapt the book differently.
I remember seeing on here that the writer wasn't overly impressed with the movie, but to get such an award is rather amazing. I hope this isn't seen as a black eye to Ghibli.

Da Vinci Code was alright, but Dogma made the same points without the weak pacing. And Ian McKellan stole the spotlight from Hanks. I'm surprised Angel-A made the list, though because I didn't know Besson had a "best" film. If Earthsea gets released here, I wonder if it'll make the Razzies.

I really like Tom Hanks so it makes me rather angry that he got Worst Actor of 06.
