....-eyetwitch- God, I listened to that...other thing once and I could swear I felt my brain trying to tear itself loose from my ears. UGH. Stick with Bratja the way it's supposed to be heard; it's better for your sanity. Anyway, I got the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society (whew!) soundtrack not too long ago, and there are a couple really nice songs on it that are perfect for sleeping. Replica - Ilaria Graziano: This is a little more techno and has a strong beat in the background, but it's still very soothing if you put it on at a low volume. I love this girl's voice^^ Somewhere in the Silence - Ilaria Graziano: Very dreamy and calming, excellent for falling asleep to. Human Step ~ Aramaki's Theme - Yoko Kanno: The first part of this song is really somber and gentle, but about halfway through it changes and becomes more upbeat. If you can split it, though, it'd work great. Take A Little Hand - Gabriela Robin: What a pretty, pretty song. The vocal is slow and soft, with that repetitive Gablish we all know and love. The melody is mostly guitar (although I think there's a mandolin in there) and it's very soothing and gentle. |

Pretty much anything from the Aria soundtrack(s), the Animation or the Natural. They're so peaceful and soft. I would probably doze off hearing the songs on a lazy summer day.

Ahhhhh, music to sleep to... I can't really help you there, since the only time I fall asleep with music playing is by accident. I really don't like listing song titles if they're not in a list so
Thank You! by Home Made Kazoku -- Love it, might be too upbeat for relaxing, but it chills me out Boats and Birds by Gregory and the Hawk -- Yeah, not really jpop, but very mellow Ave Maria by Yoko Kanno -- Listening to it right now, as a matter of fact, and I am chilled Don't Get Lost in Heaven by Gorillaz -- Gotta get back on topic here, but I've always had a place for this track in my heart. You'll love it. I'm sure there are others, but I wanna save some more for other posts. Hope this helped.

To the person that mentioned all the Gackt songs: I love Gackt, but I personally have a hard time falling asleep to him. Dunno why it is, but his stuff isn't bedtime music for me. And Tsuki no Curse and Michiyuki from Loveless. Very haunting.... But for me...if I'm tired enough I can fall asleep to anything. X_X; But if I'm awake enough, anything is enough to annoy me and make me angry that I can't sleep. |

Most kinds of electronic ambient should do the trick. Maybe with the exception of dark-ambient (which is too scary to fall asleep to) you've got several great alternatives.
Brian Eno has been mentioned. Just about all his records from the late 1970's are doable. Music for Airports, from 1978, is considered among his first full on ambient albums. Biosphere's later albums are very soothing. Lots of his stuff is inspired by natural sounds like melting ice, rainfall etc. His first two are a little too beat-oriented to be relaxing. Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works vol. II is an atmospheric experience. It's probably the only Aphex-related work that fit in this category though. Nowdays he can be extremly noisy. Stars of the Lid use "ordinary" instruments, but it feels just as relaxing as most electronic drones imo. Sometimes I can't even spot the difference. Other artists worth checking out: Oval, Rapoon, Susumu Yokota, Philip Glass, Global Communication, Monos, Robert Rich, Loscil, Austere, S.E.T.I., Tangerine Dream, Zoviet*France, Steve Roach, Eluvium, Bass Communion (side-project from the guy behind Porcupine Tree) and so on... I've got tons of others, but there's already been a great deal of recomendations so you probably have a lot to choose between. |

Fruits Basket (which was already mentioned I believe) is great for drifting off. The bgm from Fushigi Yuugi. And anything I've heard from Rie Fu (she did the first Bleach ending and some other things) I find to be really mellow and relaxing.

The song I probably find the most soothing is One Summer's Day from the Spirited Away soundtrack, along with others like The Sixth Station and The House at Swamp Bottom. Some of Kanno Yoko's music is also nice.

How about Dango Daikazoku from Clannad? It's a sweet, soft and cute melody. Although I did try listening to it before sleeping, and it sounded kinda creepy that way thanks to that tiny voice.
Also, the ED from Kimi ga Nozomu Eien/Rumbling Hearts. I believe the title is Hoshizora no Waltz. It really has that lullaby feel. |

Well, I personally prefer Chiisana Tenohira from the Clannad game soundtrack (the Lia version is even better, IMO), which has the essentially the same melody as Dango Daikazoku, only less creepy, as it has more of the eroge feel to it. Really, a lot of eroge vocal songs have this remarkably soothing feel to them. Most songs from Key's games, or the slower-paced I've Sound songs are relaxing, to me at least. Also, on the BGM/instrumental front, I've always liked leaving the 20020220 Music from Final Fantasy playing as I go to sleep. Just make a playlist that skips the MC talking bits and the battle themes, and you're all set. |

I've found a lot of random anime music is rather relaxing. For the most part, anything from Key animes like Last Regrets or Tori no Uta calm me quite a lot. Also, just random songs that aren't particularly heavy do the same thing.
One of my personal favorites is Be Your Girl, the ending theme to Elfen Lied. |
