I have every issue of Shonen Jump, and it's been a fun few years. (pun unintended for those of you who know japanese) But I think the fact that they put Yu-Gi-Oh! GX into the magazine speaks for itself. SJ isn't what it used to be (language used to be kept in, and used to have unedited partial nudity, etc.) Plus I always liked the old articles better. But to get to my point, I think Viz should end with the current volumes in SJ, then end the magazine. This would get the manga volumes out faster. It'd probably cost more money for the volumes compared to SJ, but I think it'd work out.

I am a subscriber and i do think adding gx was a bad idea lot's of fans were happy yu-gi-oh would be ending and then they go and give us another yu-gi-oh series but i dont think they should stop i love SJ but yeah they should work on getting the volumes out faster.

I wish they didn't censor quite so much. I don't read SJ myself, but I've been keeping up with buying the Shaman King manga, and I just fear for how they're going to handle some of the more mature things that happen much later in the series, especially when the characters really start growing up.
....And they removed Yoh's pot leaf. -cry-

As long as the magazine is making them money, they will continue to release it and they probably won't stop editing anytime soon.

Magazine sales are high, no doubt because of distribution; they're more heavily censored than the manga, going by what people are saying about Neji's manji in a recent Naruto tankobon. So, I doubt we'll be seeing the magazine go down anytime soon, sadly.

They definitely need to put more chapters in the magazine. Come on, they should make EVERY series (excluding GX & Gintama) 3 chapters a month, and not just give Naruto & One Piece the special treatment. This way, the manga versions can be released quarterly.
& personally, as much as I like Shaman King, I think they need to take it out of the magazine. Not only is it too long, the anime is over, and there really isn't much going for it in terms of merchandise, either. I only say Shaman King, because:
- One Piece & Naruto are pretty much the two longest & most popular series in the mag (unless Naruto hasn't exceeded 32 volumes in Japan, then my mistake.)
- Hikaru no Go's anime is still airing, so there's some exposure there.
- YGO is almost over, might as well keep it in.
- YYH would be another candidate along with Shaman King, but it's only 19 volumes, so it'd end in about 3 years at the pace they're going right now, which isn't so bad, IMO. =\

Actually you're very wrong about Naruto and OP being the longest running. Kochikame is the longest running at 151 volumes and still going. The second is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure that ended with 80 volumes and then have a 7th part called Steel Ball Run. What I think is that Shonen Jump should just add better series. Add some of the Shonen Jump Advance. Add Death Note, D.Gray-man, Reborn, Black Cat, Kenshin. Some of those. Shonen jump japan has like 20 mangas in it. Why is ours such a ripoff?

Actually, he's not, since he's talking only about the ones in the U.S. magazine.

That would be the WORST thing they could do. Then all of those series would be released just as slowly as the others. With more series in there, less space in the magazine would be devoted to each one.
And ending the magazine would also be a horrible idea. It's definitely a bargain, you're getting multiple series at a reasonable price. I like what they've been doing with all the previews recently. Gintama is a nice addition, but they need more than one chapter a month. YGO GX was just unecessary

I think it's a ripoff compared to the Japanese Jump. And the only things in Jump that are worth getting are Hikaru No go, Naruto, and Gintama. (I would say Yu yu Hakusho, but the art ruins it)

Agreed. I sincerely doubt the issues SJ has will be resolved simply by added or subtracting some series, or by discontinuing the magazine all together. I believe that yes, some of the series ought to be dropped or at least alternated, but I doubt anyone's gonna be okay with 'em discarding a series entirely so abruptly, since all of these manga have at least SOME following.
As far as the over censorship problems; I'm in favor of them lessening this, but not abandoning it all together either. Since many of SJ's readers are younger teens and kids, along with the older fans. My hope is that they can find a balance between overly-edited matierals, and leaving the 'mature' content alone completely.

Yeah, I meant the North American version of SJ. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough. =S

And I know this part isn't Viz's fault, but the manga has also been getting boring
YGOMW: It got boring after chapter 1
YGOGX: ...Wow this sucks
SK: Got boring once Ren became good
YYH: Probably the only thing still good in the magazine
GT: Only 2 chapters so far so I can't judge it
OP: got boring once Luffy escaped Smoker and Buggy
N: It's ok but nothing great....maybe if everything wasn't drawn out so long it'd be better.

Really?!?! I've always hated YGO, but the Millenium World arc is just great. I look forward to it every month. I love the Egyptian story, it almost redeems the rest of the series.

I know how ya feel. I use to really like YGO (even played the TCG with my brother) but when the story steered away from the Egyptian theme I really lost all interest. I mean, c'mon! Half of the "side story" stuff was just unadulterated crap... (though perhaps some were better than others). I've hardly read any of the manga's version, but from what I've heard it's so much better (i.e. violent) so maybe it'll be worth checking out...
