The mecha genre may be on the decline among Americans, but what about in Japan? Aren't they still figuring out new ways to package Gundam toys with Pocky?

First Gundam and Seed are really becoming an older fan series. I believe the Pocky article mentioned that they are targeting 30+ year olds. According to Gundam for Adults volume 1 the largest age bracket for Gundam Seed was the 35-39 year olds at 28.7% followed by the 30-34 at 18.4%. In contrast only 3.4% of the Turn A fans were 35-39. Every Gundam series before Seed had it's largest bracket in the teens range. Seed is the first non-UC Gundam that is drawing in fans from the First series like me.

Magazines like Model Graphix B-Club and Hobby Japan were huge when I was a kid. These magazines were almost mecha plamodel exclusive magazines. Even NewType had a Sunrise mecha cover and poster every month for it's first 5 years. Most of these fans are now older and the 3000 Yen+ price for a MG kit (as opposed to the older under 500 Yen) proves it. I believe you will also find more older Japanese fans in general, and real robot shows really evolved in the 80s.
