I think this can go either in this forum or the music forum, I'll leave that up to the mods.

I think that the openings with the animation and the music gives you an idea of what to expect the anime if you have not seen it yet. The ending can draw you into the character being featured in the ending, if not much is known about them yet there is something that you want to know, or maybe it might just be fanservice. But do you take the time to watch these sequences? Is it because of the characters, or is it just because of the music?

Most of the anime I watch, when it's the first episode I watch all of both the opening and ending sequences, and then just depending upon whether they catch my eye, or maybe it's just the music that appeals to me to not skip over everytime I watch an episode of the series. Usually it's the song that catches my attention, such as Lilium, opening for Elfen Lied, or Shine, ending for Hellsing. Two series that caught my eye to make me watch the openings and endings due to animation were Tenjo Tenge and Requiem From the Darkness. Tenjo Tenge on their part for having some groovy dancing in the opening, as well as some good features of Mahya Very Happy Requiem, I'm sorry, for featuring Ogin-san, and this is a pinup.

[EDIT: Considering that you said "watch" instead of "listen" I will leave this in the Anime Forum instead of moving it to Music. -TK]

I'll always watch the opening at least once, and usually the ending as well. If I really like them, I'll watch on just about every episode (especially if they change up the animation, like in Moon Phase). More often I'll be watching openings, as I usually find ending sequences boring and the music less interesting. Also, unless I dislike the opening and closing, I'll watch them on the last episode or two of a series as well.

Hmm, believe it or not, I actually almost always watch the opening theme each and every time I watch an episode. That is, if I liked the opening. There are a few I couldn't stand so I skipped them each time. But other than that, I always watch them. Don't know why, I just usually enjoy watching them, and like to take a short break from watching the actual episodes (which I usally watch a lot of at a time).

As for the ending, I usually watch it once and then skip it. Ending themes aren't usually as high budget as openings and in turn aren't as fun or interesting to watch... usually. Once in a while, if I like an ending, I will watch it every episode.

I also watch the opening sequence to every anime I see at least on the first episode. Sometimes if there is a lot of images in the opening for characters that don't appear in that episode I'll re-watch again after an episode where those characters are introduced.

I like to watch shows from start to end so I rarely watch the opening on every single episode. However there are exceptions; the Moon Phase sequence was so catchy I couldn't help but watch every time, and it was also fun to catch all the changes. Also shows that have really good music like Fullmetal Alchemist, or one awesome opening theme like Gunslinger girls, I do tend to watch the openings quite a few times. One that I can't really explain why I watched on every single episode is Excel, that opening is almost hypnotic, I wanted to hit that skip forward button but just couldn't.

But most shows don't really offer a lot in the openings so I will skip them all except for the first time. Like I borrowed the first couple of seasons of Sailor Moon, which is what I'm currently watching, and while I like the show, I don't have the same appreciation for the opening sequence, its bad enough I sit through all the transformation sequences. Anime dazed

However the few shows I follow week to week fansubbed, or every couple of months on DVD releases, I do tend to sit through almost every opening, even if I have seen it before. I saw Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid fansubbed, and I don't even remember if I ever saw the opening more than once, but when my volume 1 (yes, with art box Razz ) arrived I watched the episodes and sat through the opening every time. I guess it is just easier to sit through the openings when you are not watching every episode in sequence.

I'm sick right now so I hope I made sense.

As a general rule I watch both opening and ending for every episode, partly because I'm a bit anal like that and feel sort of compelled to, and partly because I find the songs and/or animations good. If I'm having a marathon viewing session I might skip the OP/ED after a bit. I did that with Strawberry Panic! because the music didn't keep my interest(though the rest of the OST is really quite good).

One series I watched the ending sequence for every time was Rozen Maiden: Traumend, and it brought me to tears every single time.

Well for me personally, it depends on a few things. Do I feel too lazy to skip through the opening after I've seen it already? Do I like the opening enough to sit through it? Has the opening changed since last episode? Yeah that's about what determines whether or not I watch the opening more than once which I do make a point of watching atleast once. So far only a few have I watched every opening (Last Exile, Melancholy of Haruhi, Ergo Proxy (ending too because Radiohead is awesome) and Please Teacher) becasue I enjoyed them.

I like to listen to the OP and ED at least once, and more if I like the song. However for some series I don't like to look at the visuals for fear of anything being given away.

For instance in Death Note spoiler[I still have not watched the OP sequence but I was told that L is in it, and I was told this before he was introduced in the show (after the first ep, actually).

Now if I had watched the OP then I would have known who L was from the start, and that would have spoiled not only that moment in ep 2, but the thrill of finding out what he looked like later in the show.]

I only skip the opening and ending sequence if I'm watching a really long series (and only if I have a lot of the series available to watch). Otherwise I watch the opening and ending for every episode of a series. The only exception was Trigun for me since I couldn't stand the vocalist of the ending Anime hyper

Unless the op theme sucks, I watch it every time. It sets the mood for the show, & it just doesn't feel right without having the proper introduction.

The one I often skip is the ed theme; I'm much more inclined to ff past that than I am the intro. As I near the end of a series, though, I'll go back to watching the complete intro/outro for the last few episodes, especially if I've grown really fond of that specific show. I want to enjoy the complete experience a few more times before it's over.

I often skip the intro unless it's an intro I particularly like, which is a rarity. Matter of fact the one of the only intro's I don't skip, and have even made it a point in some cases just to view it specifically, is the intro to Ergo Proxy. Runner up would be Gunslinger Girl, I never skip that intro either. Another worth mentioning is Haibane Renmei, I don't skip that intro either. Ergo Proxy and Gunslinger Girl just have really nice visuals and a nice alternative music style. Haibane Renmei has a nice classical score also set to some very nice visuals, which is something Haibane Renmei already has in no short supply. In most cases it's the music that makes the intro worth it, only instance where visuals alone really do it for me is the Twelve Kingdoms intro, I just love the art style, the type of look you see from centuries past.

I always watch every intro at least once though but I do tend to skip ending sequences, I'll watch them for a little bit once but usually I end up skipping through it before it's done. There's just not a lot of music in anime I'm to fond of unless it's an orchestrated score, which most of the time you don't see in intro's and endings.

Like most everyone else, I will watch it the first few times and see if it sticks with me. There have been quite a few OP and ED that I find enjoyable due to either the score or the animation, or a combonation of the two. Examples of this would be for Lupin III, NG Evangelion, Paradise Kiss, Nana, and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.
Of course there are quite a few series where I just cannot seem to bring myself to watch it anymore.
So I guess it just really depends on the series and the OP. Or if I am in a hurry Laughing

People, please remember to put some kind of legitimate reason. If you liked/disliked a particular song or animation sequence, tell us which one and why. It doesn't have to be super detailed, but "couldn't stand the song" or "that song was the best ever" isn't descriptive enough.

I've already deleted around 4+ posts that did this, so at least say something constructive. Thanks.

I only watch the opening/ending sequences when I already finished the series/season, it may contain spoiler and I want to keep a total suspense.

I generally watch both the closing and opening with episode 1 or 2 (some shows skip the opening on 1 for an intro scene, so I watch it with 2), and watch it again with last epsiode (assuming they do show it, again). If I'm starting a new disc, I'll watc hthe opening with the first episode on the disc and the ending with the last. Otherwise I skip past, for the simple sake of time- sometimes shaving off those 4-5 minutes the songs take up is all I need to squeeze in some quick viewing before work. Very Happy I can't think of any tracks I liked enough to watch every single time... typically, if I liked the music, I find a soundtrack so I can listen to it.

The almost- expection is the Indelible Sin ending on FMA, simply becuase I noticed most episodes had the song cut into the end of the show, so I was curious to see the 'whole' ending.

I usually watch the opening and ending sequence at least once. There is little to no chance I will sit through them both at every episode. Since I prefer watch anime in chunks, I have my own little method. I try to watch four or five episodes at a time. When I do so, I watch the opening to the very first and the ending to the last.
