Would I be missing a lot if I skipped FMP: Fumoffu and started watching the Second Raid when it comes out? I watched the original series and really enjoyed it but from what I hear Fumoffu is a lot different from the first one.

Yes, you can skip Fumoffu. It's just a comedic spinoff that has no relation to the first series or 2nd Raid. I would suggest watching it, though, as it is pretty funny (especially the episode where Kurz and the boys try to peep on the girls at the hot spring). But if you do skip it, it's not a big deal.

As far as continuity, you wouldn't be missing much by skipping Fumoffu. However, I definitely recommend watching it. It really isn't that much different from the first series. It's the same action/comedy/romance with the same cast of characters, except the action is usually part of the comedy and there are no arm slaves. It's every day life in Japan for Sousuke, Kaname & Co. (I almost said "normal life" here, then remembered how abnormal it is.) Even amidst the craziness, however, there are a few serious moments between Sousuke and Kaname.

In short, skipping Fumoffu wouldn't detract from TSR in any way, but you would be missing out on a great series.

I think I will pick up Fumoffu eventually but if it doesn't affect the continuity I'll probably see the Second Raid first. The thinpak set I bought for FMP had a coupon that lets you save some money on the first DVD of Fumoffu. I'll probably wait on Fumoffu for a while though since I have a few other series I'm collecting at the moment.

I pretty much agree with what one3rd said, there's very little in TSR that points back to Fumoffu, but I also don't think you should skip it. But then Fumoffu is my favorite of the FMP series; I think it's absolutely fabulous. I think what makes this series better for me is the characters and how much more you get to see them without AS's and terrorists causing, uh, well.. panic, and taking up screen time.

So I guess if you are in it for the mecha action then you won't miss much by skipping it. But if you like the characters and fun as much as I do, then you should definitely watch it. Although TSR has some great character developement too, it's just a bit more dramatic.

yeah, gettin TSR withouut watching Fumoffu doesn't really affect anything, but I personally heard TSR wasn't too great?... Anyway, Fumoffu is my favorite comedy anime so far, having watched Excel Saga and a couple others. I definitely reccomend watching Fumoffu.

Really? Where'd you hear that? Because it's rated very highly here... Better than the other two, in fact.

Shocked Not rated high?!

It's rated number 23 of all time here at ANN... it's not even just "good", it's rated really high. The ratings indicated that each installment of the FMP series gets better, I'm only beginning to imagine the next series and praying that KyoAni will keep control of it.
