I hear people saying that some topics prop up after a few weeks or is repeated a lot so wouldnt be a good idea to have sticky that has to do with those.

It depends on the topic. Personally, I only try to keep real general stuff like rules, favorite/ID'ing anime, and introductions that are already stickied. The thing about most topics is that they generally cover one particular subject or title. Plus, if we keep too many stickied threads, they'd eventually end up crowding the first page.

There's a lot of repeated topics here that are discussed heavily, making all of them stickies would just make a page full of stickies. We already have enough stickies for the topics come up most often (favorite anime, recommendations, and identifying anime). And we still get people who post threads of those, despite the stickies.

The most frequent recurring topics I see are "where can I download.." and "what anime is this.." which are already covered by stickies so I can't see more helping.

Well, there still the possibility they could sticky the Haruhi thread since it, well, is what, the second longest thread in the anime forum O_o. Seriously, I'd hate to see that thing if/when S2 comes out, that'll make it a monster >< But yea, stickying things left and right cause some people keep bringing up new topics about them is rather..well...pointless and space consuming.

I guess which would explain why the Haruhi Suzumiya thread remains unstickied to this day then.

I'm pretty sure that its massive length qualifies it for revival after the two-month period anyways, so just consider it a sticky that mysteriously disappears every once in a while. It's so record-breakingly enormous for a non-stickied thread we probably won't ever see another thread for general MoSH discussion on these forums.

I'm sorry, I've seen this several times but don't know what it stands for, if someone can elaborate for me please, would really appreciate it.

"Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya." I think Wolverine Princess just flubbed a bit, as it should be MoHS. Also often abbreviated as "SHnY" (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu).

It just depends on what name order you prefer. From my experience, most fansubbers leave them in the correct, Japanese order. But in the case of the dominant group for this particular series, they decided to go with the Western order for whatever reason.

I personally go for the Japanese order anytime I mention Japanese names as a sign of respect and aesthectics. And besides, just saying "Haruhi Suzumiya" sounds like something a very heavy Italian-accented Mario would say: "It's a ME! Haruhi SuzuMIya! WAhoo!~"

I have seen it abbreviated "MoSH", which would be "Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi." Although I find it kind of odd, as if they wanted to stick "faithful" to the original Japanese title they should just call it "SHnY" (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu), and if they wanted to have the translated title, names would be better fit to appear in Western order ("Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya as opposed to Suzumiya Haruhi").

Perhaps it is because of the acronym's sound as "mosh" that causes people to do it. It's more reader friendly than both "MOHS" and "SHNY," thus more easily remembered.

That makes no sense to me, though. If you're going to translate the title into English, why leave the names family-name first? Isn't flip-flopping it kind of part of the translation? Besides, the people who insist on saying "Suzumiya Haruhi" usually go ahead and say "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuustu." And seeing as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya seems to be more or less the official English title of the show, I don't see how respect has anything to do with calling it that. I'm not sure where that Mario reference came from... Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

Wouldn't this have something to do with it?

Yup, that's exactly why I abbreviate the show's title this way. (That, and its quiet the spectacle for bystanders to watch my school’s anime club with 30+ members (half of which are extremely tall, meaty Hawaiian guys) all chanting "MOSHMOSHMOSHMOSHMOSH!!!!" at the top of their lungs.)
