Black Lagoon (TV) Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage (TV) Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail (OAV) Genres: action, drama Themes: crime , girls with guns, mafia, mercenaries, pirates Plot Summary: Okajima Rokuro—now known almost exclusively as "Rock"—was once a typical, put-upon Japanese businessman. Then, on a routine business trip, he was kidnapped and ransomed by the Lagoon Company: a band of mercenary pirates operating out of the crime-riddled city of Roanapur. Abandoned by his bosses, he joined the Lagoon Company. Now he must try and stay afloat amongst the ever-shifting politics of the criminal underworld, while simultaneously avoiding death at the hands of his quick-tempered, gun-toting co-worker, "Two Hand" Revy. ---------------------------------- Anime Marathon Discussion (Nov. 6th, 2015 - Nov. 15th, 2015) starts here ---------------------------------- Just finished this series the other day, and I like it a lot. It feels very similar to the Cowboy Bebop/Outlaw Star variety where a group of mercenaries go around acting goofy or shooting up a storm (much less goofiness in this one, though). 12 episodes is just way too short, but I'm glad I found out they're making another season. The action in particular was very fun and I really like the chemistry they have with each other (I love the episode where they blow up the helicopter ). As much violence and cursing as there is, I'm surprised how it still managed to balance all that adventure, comedy, and drama. I especially liked the part where spoiler[ Rock stood up to Revy at that restaurant]. Revy is a hot n' sassy vixen of a character too. I really like her seiyuu for creating a lot of those different emotions and sounding sexy in the process. It was especially intersting how they used English curse words in the dialogue too (more funny than anything else). Art and animation are top-notch being a Madhouse production, and the intro is rocking. Techno stuff works very well for high-paced series, and it certainly didn't fail in this one, even though the Engrish lyrics were a bit incoherent. Overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and hope Geneon will release this soon around the beginning of 2007. I highly recommend it to those looking for fun, mature, and action-packed (particularly with guns) anime. EDIT: Just noticed I misspelled something. Added Encyc. entries. I've been hearing a lot about this series recently, and this makes it even more interesting. I guess us American release only fans will hear more about it when it comes stateside. Can't wait, but thanks to RightStufs sale I should be able to be held off for a little while.

season 2 starts next month, and from the promo it looks awesome.
this show is great. once it's dubbed and gets more promotion, people are gonna wonder how they let it slip under the radar. the artistic style reminds me a lot of Hellsing, i just hope they focus more on the other characters in the next season, Shenhua rocks. Unlike Cowboy Bebop, I felt that Black Lagoon lacks the actual story. However, the action and the chemistry like Tony K. mentioned I really enjoyed. I also really loved Revy's seiyuu, the minor portryals of some emotions really took it to the next level. I'm definitely looking forward to the next season.

Say what? You finished the entire series before season 2 is even out? I know you Mod's have power but damn, to be able to see an entire season before it's out.....that's a cool trick . Anyways after looking at the sequel, it's appears as if it's a seperate show, much like FMP.....I had felt off on rating this because I figured season 2 would also be included in the show.
At the end of the day (After working 14 hours) Black Lagoon is a great show to come home to...it's simple and fun. The action is there and Levy always kills me with that spoiler["Rock i'll kill you if you F this up" routine.]
One thing that I hope this new season does is spoiler[digs more into Revy past, I always thought that there was so much more for this character then we have seen so far. The Ending credits always make me think there is something else to be learn with Revy walking alone......and also for the new season hopefully some sort of definte antagonist, (Perhaps like Vicious) in the sense that even if there not in every episode you know that the crew will eventually do battle with this person in the future. ] Can't wait for Season 2, I can't wait actually to see how the dub for this series turns out. I think that if Geneon manages this property right it could be the next big thing here....because right now it's a little under the radar...I wonder if someone will pick it up for TV. I stopped watching the series at around episode 5 or so - I just got the feeling I could tell where it was going, and wasn't interested in seeing more. Still, I can't deny that the art and animation were both excellent, some of the best I've seen. Also, the characters were more interesting than the usual stock protagonists that come up time and time again. At the end of the day though, even though it's a very good action series, it's not what I was looking for.

Yeah I agree, this would be a good title for IFC to get....this could really push them over as the best channel (I'm not into Bleach/Naruto) for anime....as far as I am concerned. Also it would help so that BL wouldn't have a bunch of edits, since their is quite a lot of language in this title. Other thing is this it seems like Geneon shows don't really ever make it onto TV anymore now with Anime Unleash no longer available in the US. That where my inital exposure to titles like Last Exile and Gungrave first occurred, and since then they been my favorite company as far as releases go. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

God I hope not....I really want them to move foward with the story. Well I think that I will have to say that this is in the same catagory of sweetness as Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star. |

Tony, now you see why I get all gushing when I mention Black Lagoon--it's a "hot-ass anime action chick" otaku's paradise. I can't sing enough praises about this series as it epitomizes exactly the theme and style of anime I prefer.
Of course, I'm completely infatuated with Revy since she is my dreamgirl: violent, brazen, cocky, sexy, obnoxious, amoral, sociopathic, and a righteous killing machine. It doesn't get any better than this. *sigh* If only I could make hentai with her! I also have the complete single of MELL's "Red Fraction" and have listened to it endlessly. It was the perfect hook for this series. Hopefully, the creators won't ruin the adrenaline rush with too much slow-paced backstory in the second season. Don't you dare compare Black Lagoon to those two. While all three have their respective ammounts of action, the deciding factor is the sheer grittyness of BL. Cowboy Bebop would've been much better had Spiked dropped enough F-Bombs and Faye had a better arsenal. CB was way to sanitized for it's own good (and the main reason why its overhyped). Compare Fayes puny useage of a MP5 and Glock 30 to Revy's twin Beretta 92FS, and her useage of the M79, APS Underwater Assault Rifle, and the M82. Hell, I commend BL for the useage of the antiquated PT and the PBR!! |

the problem is there isn't a real story yet. the manga's only at like volume 5. from what i hear though, one of the new arcs delves a little more into Revy's past. Last edited by v1cious on Sat Sep 16, 2006 1:12 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Well Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw star were the anime that got me into other anime. Its kinda like your first kiss though you may have better ones there just something special about the first.
PS: I don't consider Cowboy Bebop overly hyped...even though you didn't directly mention it neither is Outlaw Star. I actually think that Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop can easily compare to Black Lagoon and even though you took it as an offense for me thats a huge complement. |

I didn't mean that they were moving the same direction as FMP, just that the two season are seperated like FMP. FMP/Funmoff is really all one part, but it was broken up for the anime.....I don't want BL to turn into Fumoff.....I rather have this same style of story being told as long as there some arc that begins to develop.
