I love both soundtracks, but I think Noir's is slightly better. .hack moves at a slow, dreamy pace, and the music reflects that--it's very relaxing, but almost TOO much at some points. Even though Noir's not the fastest moving anime ever, it focuses more on action than .hack does, so it has a greater viarity of beats--you've got both of the slow, pensive songs and the faster, action-paced songs.

One advantage of the .hack//SIGN soundtracks, if you conside it an advantage of course, is the English lyrics.

Yuki Kajuira's soundtracks are like the various kinds chocolate, (Regular, white, dark, german, etc.) they're all awesome, it's impossible to choose a favorite.

Heh, but they're all still chocolate, unlike Yoko Kanno and her entire candy store of diversity . .hack//SIGN was always my favorite, though. Noir is okay, but they just repeated too much of that darn pocketwatch theme during the anime, and it got real annoying after a while.

Essentially, yes, in that in the store that has many different types of sweets you'll find some you just don't like; Jelly Beans, sour stuff, liqourish, etc.
I've found while most of her stuff is highly excellent like Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: SAC, and Escaflowne some of her other stuff like most of the tracks from my Macross Plus CDs just doesn't appeal to my ear.

Well two of my favorite ost's have to lean towards Noir though over all it has more for me .hack is really good as well like In the land of twilight and the world. I think that Noir wins out though for being so ironic to the anime. I mean you are watching these gunfights and death every where, with this somewhat light up beat Italian sounding festival music very ironic indeed.
OT Simoun is doing the same thing with their ost dark story with this light upbeat music, kind of reminds me of Noir. It is like your listening to some happy toon while watching death and destruction, maybe like the Dance of the Bumble Bee during pictures of the Normandy landing in WW2. Hope that makes some sense

I'm not going to provoke the troll, not EVEN going to do it...
I don't care, I don't wanna know if IT was referring to Yuki or Yoko, but please disregard that post. Thank you.

I know this'll sound really controversial; but I really didn't see the big deal with the .hack //Sign OST.
I'll admit it was a good tune, and it was still kind of impressive that they managed to change the style of that tune to suit the mood of whatever was currently happening (i.e. it can sometimes sound almost creepy, and at others quite warming and happy) but that doesn't really change the fact that over the duration of the anime, playing what's essentially the same song over and over again did become a little dull ;o

I listened both soundtracks just the other day and I realized that it is a very difficult decision, namely to choose between these two. At first I was tempted to say that the soundtrack of Noir was more close to my heart. The melancholic tone in certain parts made me want to listen it again. But then I heard the .hack//Sign ost and I realised that I liked this too.
So if I would have to choose between them it would be very hard simply because though I like these osts very much, there were certain parts that didn't impressed me very much. So since I can't choose, I would do a combination between them: for instance I would take from .hack//Sign ost songs like Fake wings, Valley fo the Mist (my favourite form the whole ost) or Open your heart and combine them with At dusk, Solitude by the window (my favourite from this ost) or Secret game from Noir.

I have the .hack//sign OSTs 1 and 2, and Noir OST 1. Out of all of those, .hack//sign OST 1 probably spends the most time in my CD player, even though I enjoy all of them. To be honest, I listen to the Noir OST mostly when I want to hear Akino Arai's "Kirei na Kanjou." So .hack//sign is the winner here for me.
Although I secretly agree with Tony about Yoko. *runs away*

In my personal opinion, Noir has a better soundtrack than .hack . I have not one single song from Noir that I don't like -- which is a rarity in any soundtrack I get. I like it most because of the vocals, and the chilling, haunting songs of "Salva Nos" and "Canta Por Me". They're what really made the soundtrack for me.
