I've seen this happen a few times, and did it myself recently, and people seem to get burned for it, as I was. Why is that??

Seriously speaking, I havn't seen any problem in reviving an old thread, as long as it wasn't banned. As long as you read up on what was already said, so you're not repeating the same things, I don't see why it should be bad to add to an older discussion-- say, as an example, the one on Reign that started way back in Jan, that I found in thread lists a day or so ago..... Why not bring it up, if I watched it (which I havn't), and had something to add that related to that thread specifically??

I've read the rules, but didn't see anything about this.... Is there a rule against bringing up and restarting old threads and conversations, getting them going again with a new info or point of view?? Is it somehow considered bad form, yet not "illegal"? If so, why??

Oh, no, I never start a new thread if an old one will suffice... I've dredged up threads at least a year old on a handful of occasions, simply because I had something new to say that wasn't previously brought up in the thread.

Dredging up old threads to say you (not you specifically) agree or disagree, on the other hand, is stupid.

It's definitely bad form to bring up old threads if all you're gonna say is "heh" or post some half-assed remark that adds nothing to the original discussion That's where you get flamed. But it's also a good way of not starting repeat threads. Personally, I say no, don't bring 'em back up. I would think threads that have been dormant for thirty or more days should be auto-deleted. That way they're not sitting there for newbies to bring up, and not using up bandwidth. Problem solved. The drawback is that discussions will be repeated, but I suppose there's no way to avoid that since newbies will start a new thread on an old subject anyway because they don't bother looking at older threads. It's a vicious cycle.

Steve, I just read your post in the Kyoto Arc thread, and I see how BERSERK EVA's reaction would be a little jarring. Pay no attention to that whining; there's nothing wrong with reviving an old thread to contribute a new thought to the forum. As long as it adds to the discussion (ie. something more than a dumb one-liner or restating an old argument), I hope you'll feel free to reply to any of ANN's older threads. I don't expect you'll continue to see such animosity, but if it persists, we'll deal with any offending users.

If anyone has further questions about the forum policy, please PM one of the staff members.

Berserk-Eva..... I didn't mean to have our specific posts brought up, although, yeah, obviously the question I was asking was about me. I was genuinely curious if I was doing something wrong. It was a bit jarring, but I wasn't __that__ grumpy about it.

Thank you for clearing everything up people. BTW, __is__ there a policy bit written up in the rules on this issue, to guide people?? I read em', a few months ago, but I don't remember anything. It could be a useful addition.... Just a thought.
