this looks really interesting. a Lord of the Flies in space. anyone seen any of it? anyone hear anything about it? it looks like it could be good...or it could be really bad. dub doesn't sound to good.

Lord of the Flies, jeez, that's old. The book wasn't so bad but the movie we had to watch was CHEEEEESY.
Anyways, it looks like it'll be pretty bad but it could do pretty well on saturday morning cartoons. The whole no adult, kids run the show theme, was always appealing to me at least. |

which one did you see the 1963 version or the 1990 version? 1963 1990
it looks like they start killing each other. or at least some of them do. I don't think they'd show it for kids. |

Heh, I prefer Battle Royale's take.
Infinite Ryvius is a quasi-Lord of Flies anime, but that means it is not appropriate for kids tv. A better analogy from what I have seen, is a mix between Gundam 0079 and Eva. |

this sounds more like Lord of the Flies. cause in Battle Royale it was the adults forcing the kids to kill each other. but in this it sounds more like its the kids after the adults get killed and they start killing each other. so in my opinion Battle Royale has nothing to do with Lord of the Flies other than kids killing each other. |

In my opinion Ryvius is really great. It's probably the most disturbing and depressing anime I've ever seen, it took me days to "digest" it. (It's also one of the best anime ever made, IMHO.) It has intriguing characters and relationships, and also a kinda refreshing attitude that makes it different from other space-anime (okay, so I can't really explain it now, I'm too sleepy). It can be compared to Lord of the Flies, but only in its setup: kids (the oldest ones are only 17) stranded on the spaceship with no adults, trying to learn the rules of survival and establish some kind of a society (then trying to make it work). Though it has some space/mecha action, Ryvius is not really about action, but rather about relationships, self-discovery, and the things lurking in the deepest parts of the human psyche. (and no, Ryvius is definitely not appropriate for kids... I myself wouldn't show it to anyone under 16)
Eeeh... seems I'm too sleepy to write non-general, non-cheesy things... but here is a good review for this anime.
Nope, the kids don't start killing each other in this. This is not really about action or killing or whatever (and has nothing to do with Battle Royale). |
