It's nice to know the Japanese hate cg flicks with talking animals as much as I do. Not really surprised about Sith, though. GE 999 already covered the same ground.

Disney really do make terrible films now.
They're not even a shadow of what they were in the late 80's/early 90's. I also hate the CGI look which has replaced our beloved Cel Animation. Don't even get me started on what i think of Digital Ink. |

Indeed, Ghibli and Gundam are strong in Japan.
I reported those rankings posted this week in Gunota Headlines - and much more - last week on the Anime On DVD Community Forums and other forums.
A scan of the February 2006 Issue of Animedia for the 2005 Animation Series DVD Sales Top 10 in Japan according to Oricon can be found here and here. ----------------------- Animation Titles that are Top 100 Overall DVD Sellers in Japan During the First Half of the Year 2006
EDIT: Forgot a "Gandamu" in original post at Anime On DVD; added it in the quote here. |

I wonder what the profit margin is for R2 DVDs? Looking at my new PA, I see a DVD priced at 6,000 yen for volumes 2-7. That's somewhere around $50, and two episodes? So is America getting a free ride, or are the Japanese just getting ripped off?
Well, at least someone can give some data as to how many units are sold. And we could know this in America, but for having to shell out $30,000 for a Nielsen product? Better to undercount than overcount. Overvcounting gets you Enron, Worldcom, and maybe a trip to the Bankruptcy court. |

Because the Japanese do not feel that they can gouge $50 for 2 TV episodes from American consumers, they dont enforce those prices. However people in Japan do buy them for $50 and they seem to make what they consider a profit so they don't change it. It's utterly bloody-minded extortion though. |
