Well, I watched first three episodes. I don’t know what to think, and they say FLCL is weird. Confused as hell, but I will continue to watch it.
So here is a question, what do you guys think about it? Story wise, in character design, animation itself.

I think Lain is a great series as a whole. The only problem is that you have to watch all the episodes in order, hopefully in a marathon,or else it is incoprehensible.

During the first half of Lain you have absolutely, positvely no clue what's going on, but by the end the series actually does make sense. It even does a nice job of tying together most of the lose ends. You should keep watching.

it didn't directly appeal to me, but at the end of the first episode i got curious to see where it would end. from then on i got hooked and now it's one of my all-time favorites.
the character designs are good, the settings's good too. music is good too, especially the opening theme by BOA (not the korean BOA!). the story is a bit confusing at first, but as the show continues it gets clearer and you're not left behind with urgent questions after the final episode.
basically, it's the story of a lonely girl who's trying to find her place in life. it can be sad when she discovers the truth about her origin and her surroundings, but all ends well. there's a touch of x-files in there as well, which i liked.
it's really different from a lot of the other shows out there, which is quite a relief.

Well, like FLCL, it doesn't really begin to make sense/come together until about halfway through or so. It gets deep at moments, philosophically thinking about the way things are; her life, her computer, personalities, and how they all come together. The animation matches the context of the story, in my opinion.
Personally, I don't know why I watched it, it's completely opposite from my usual genre. It gets so deep at points, I started to drift off, thinking of other things, which makes things more confusing. I like bright animation and that just wouldn't work with this series. I'm also not a fan of scifi series. However, the whole idea behind it was interesting to me and made watching it worthwhile. ^-^;

Well, I just watched 5th episode and I at the point where I have no idea what is going on. Funny part is, I am creating different theories in my head, on what is going on, but am I right, I don't know. As many of you said, I hope it will make more sense half way through.

I just wonder when it will be "cool" to hate Lain.
I mean, it's deep and thought provoking, kinda like Eva. When will the backlash start? When will we get threads like "I can't believe that such idiots used to watch garbage like Lain. The director is such a hack. etc... etc...
Call this a prediction for the future.

Um... never. The only anime I have senn refered to as garbage on this site is DBZ. The only reason people "hate" (it's more annoyance than hate) is because of the damned fanboys. They're all depressing and sickening that they can cling on to the damned show for so many years that I jst wanna say,
"Yea the show is great. So is chicicken, but I don't shove fried chicken down your pipe do I?"
It gets old seeing shinji after shinji after shinji at cons. The best part about EVA fanboys though is that they don't care about your oppinions!
Lane is a good show, but my friend got all obsessed with it, cut her hair to ook like Lains, bought clothes to look like Lains, stayed on the computer all the time (she did that before but I hate it anyway) and wrote "Lain is awesome" everywhere, it was so sickening and disturbing. I'll put it this way...
Fanboy/girl Extremists suck!

Never. Fact is Lain is not really popular enough to warrant any considerable backlash. Sure, there will always be someone who for whatever reason dislikes it; but since the series lacks a cadre of screaming fanboys it's unlikely it will ever be "cool" to dis.
Incidently, it's still not "cool" to dislike EVA, it's a very popular series with most fans. There is just a minority of us that dislike it and think of Ano as a hack.

I like Lain, haven't finished watching it. But lets put it this way "it's interesting". Its quite different then other animes and really quite confusing. I'll finish it sometime and then i can be more confused then i am now about it.

If you ask me, Lain might have some more friends if she cut her hair differently. I mean, what's that all about?

even the teddy bear pajamas?
i can see how people might not take well to EVA. don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant anime, but it gets really freaking annoying. watching that show down to the end made my head hurt, and EOE made it even worse.

I think(no, I know) I started to hate Lain when Arisu had cybersex with her teacher. Bad enough fans already tried to
defend the validity of one anime where a tween masturbates. (*cough* End of Evangelion *cough*) Now they tried to do the same thing with Lain. At this rate, if we
wait long enough, and people will call La Blue Girl a work of
art.
