*crosses fingers* Please don't screw this show up, please don't screw this show up...!
I'm asking too much, aren't I? I've just been waiting for this show to come here forever. *sigh*

Strange, it debuts 12 1/2 hours earlier on ABC Family Jetix at 8am that same day. Good news for me, I don't get Toon Disney.

Well unless its differently edited in the US, going by the preview episodes i saw at the London Expo this show looks brilliant, and it didn't ound too americanised.

If that's the the case, how were the OP and ED songs? I heard that Yoko Kanno composed them.

He isn't the only one who saw the series. The opening and ending songs were just beautiful, in my honest opinion. The Opening borrows some animation from episodes, but is more often then not, original animation. The ending was completely full of original animation. For some reason, the ending song sounded a bit sad, unlike the opening which was very upbeat. Though, this may have to do with the fact it deals with Molly's wanting. (I won't get too into detail, as I would be spoiling some things.)

Gah, I missed the premiere!
Even though I can catch up on it on Friday, did anyone else get a chance to watch it?

I saw it, and I'm sorry to say that while Taku iwasaki's symphonic score was kept, the OP and ED songs (composed by Yoko Kanno) may have been replaced by an original song created just for the U.S. broadcast which can be on both the opening credits and end credits.
I say "may", because it only says "main title song by". "By" could mean anything, but until there is more clarification, I have to assume that Kanno's theme songs were in fact replaced by one original American created song. As such, it's uncertain as to what other changes (if any) were made.
Otherwise, the show itself was just fine, although I'm not sure about Don Wei not recognizing his own daughter. Further, it's revealed that main character's name is "Eva", and that "Molly" was an assumed name.
Well, that's all I really have to say about it. Well, actually there is more, but for now, I'll just leave it at that.[/spoiler]

Darn darn darn, the American version totally doesn't have the Yoko Kanno songs, because it's some stupid rock music song where the chorus is like "Never say never...!" The singer sounds like the singer of the ending theme of Yakitate Japan with the CG Manager dancing, would certainly not call it "beautiful."
Otherwise the show was pretty awesome, the character design with no noses is really cute.

Why am I not surprised that the OP and ED sequences are not kept?
I actually saw the original OP on the official website, and it's freakin' enchanting!

I don't know about the sequences, but the songs were definitely changed.
Now, normally, I would ignore this sort of thing, and it's true that Jetix U.S. has replaced OP's and ED's before, but this show is different. Considering the fact that this show, while being French-Japanese, was made for int'l audiences (not just JPN, US, or EUR), I can't ignore it this time. I had hoped that this would the same show all over the world in every regard, (sigh) but Jetix U.S., just HAD to "localize" one part of it.
The flag waving (at least in this respect) needs to stop, and for this reason, I'm giving this show my personal "yellow card"*. This means that if there is even one more screwup...just ONE, then I am dropping this show, regardless of where the story is. I know you think I'm exaggerating, and that I should just enjoy the show, but if we as a people, as a world even, are ever going to get our act together, we need to be willing to accept, or at the very least understand other cultures, and for this reason, if a show is created for viewing by the entire world population, then ALL of it needs to be the same for ALL territories (or at the very least, as much as local S&P will allow...).
That's why I have no intention of being part of a show (its viewership, I mean) with a possibly hypocritical promotion structure. I say possibly, because it will be dependent on whether or not they screw up one more time, at any time. In other words, I don't know if it's being hypocritical yet.
Okay, I'm done.
*This is a reference to "football", which in this case refers to the game played similarly to hockey which has the round black and white ball w/ pentagaons and hexagons (a certain event relating to it starts today). For everything stated above, I don't think that the word that rhymes with "blocker" would be "PC" at this time.

This is what Savin wrote back to me about the dissapointed in American Theme songs.
[i]Thanks for your passion and support for Oban, a passion that has been mine for 9 years now (I came up, as you may have read, with the original concept in... 1997, and have been fighting to make it a reality ever since).
Although it is rather catchy, I totaly agree with you the US song sounds rather classic/boyish.
It was great fun and a great honour to work with Miss Kanno on the openning and closing songs and I wish we could have kept it everywhere in the world. I'll pass a softer version of your message to our US partners, though I cannot guarantee this will have any impact of the local US release strategy.
This said I hope this opening music issue won't deter you from the show itself, which I beleive has a lot to offer.
Iwaski's beautiful bgm music, and all the rest of the images have been left, as far as I'm aware, untouched /uncut in the us.
All the best,
Savin

Interesting. I'll pass this along.
In any event, it's not Savin's fault. To be honest, however, it almost did "deter" me from the show. Again, I will be showing zero tolerence for this show's U.S. broadcast.

The opening shouldn't matter the show should matter so what they changed the singer it's a kids show kinda expect that we all can't get what all want. By the way who sings the opening I like it in a sense. My favorite quote that fit's the situation right now is ' Cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it.' anyway have a good day then or night
