can someone please explain the obsession over pocky with anime fans? honestly, I like pocky and all but I don't really go out of my way to get it and I never pay more than $.89 for it...It's just that at Otakon I couldn't believe that they were selling pocky for $5.50 and people were actually buying it...maybe its the only Japanese snack that these people get to eat that is also portrayed in some anime, but honestly, I don't see what's so great about it...

I agree thats is a good snack, and I have been known to pick it up on the extreamly rare occasion that I see it at the store, but I wouldn't pay to have it imported or pay lager amout of money for it. However, I think that one of the biggest reasons that people will pay alot of money for it is when they haven't had it before and don't know what the normal price for it is.

Also, I guess there is something to be said for getting something at a 'con if you haven't seen it in a long time.

I can go down the street to buy Pocky, but I suppose Pocky fans who cannot get it very often are more apt to pay outragous prices for it.

Cool

IIRC dont they have several different flavors.

Wasnt Karen in Onegai Twins eating some sort of salad version on the train?

And I thought I had seen a pizza version.

Men's is dark chocolate. Coconut is good. And there is an American plant for it somewhere. It is now much more availible on the West coast. Of course, I live in a heavily Japanese neighborhood, so I can rent raw anime too.

My understanding from an old Tokyopop magazine artical was that Men's ment dark or bitter chocholate, I guess it would be a slang term. What I don't understand is why it would be Men's and not Men seing as how there are no posessive nouns in the japanese language. Probably just a case of engrish.

I get a new box every 2 weeks.... I try to eat it slow because it is expensive. It costs 2.50 in the international foods section of a local grocery store.... It is a fun snack.

My favorite flavor is Milk.

I just buy it at the local grocery store. Buying it off the net just sounds weird. Maybe anime fans obsess over it because its the closest they can get to living the "anime life." Cause, ya know, mechas and robotic maids can REALLY strain a budget.

Well, its a darn good tasting snack, thats all there is to it. I've had several varieties and the men's is my favorite, though I love dark chocolate. I really want coconut, but I've never been able to get it.

I've seen it for $4 at Suncoast while looking for my titles. I'll be darned if I'm gonna shell out $4 for a small box of whatever-covered pretzels. Now, if it was only $1, then I'll consider it.

... why hasn't some American company tried to market these? At least the "normal" ones, like chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, possibly coconut, etc. They can't possibly be expensive or hard to make. It'd make pretzels more interesting.
