Question: Howl's Moving Castle [might be spoiler]

There's something that still confuses me in this movie: how is it that spoiler[Sophie changes back and forth from young to old (and it seems that it's without her knowledge that it's happening)]? And just how did she spoiler[break the curse]?

Umm yea I was little confused about the how she broke spoiler[her curse] but as for the first part I think it has to do with spoiler[her showing that she still passion even if she is an old women. Like did you notice when she was changing back in fort it was at very tense, or events where she could of back down but instead she rose to the moment.]
BTW did anyone else think that Sophie looks a lot like Nausicaa specially toward spoiler[the end when she get her hair cut/ate. And I know it's the same artist but it was kinda spot beside the color] hope that helps.
