So a K-pop band is getting a anime show. So does this mean that Girls Generation and Psy will get their own anime show in the future.

Rather than Psy I think the male idol groups would be a much more logical choice. The crazy dedicated fans have already assembled, the fanservice has already been done for you; just animate it, call it a BL series, and watch the money roll in (for the record I'd buy a SHINee anime in a heartbeat Anime catgrin).

5 episodes? That doesn't seem to be enough time for them to interact with each other and maybe yuri ship them.

I wish they could animate some manwhas or webtoons like Noblesse, just look at this anime teaser they made to promote the webtoon's 3rd season

Is this a new trend since the AKB0048 series?

I don't know, but we know that Idolmaster has it first, along with a very strong fanbase. I suppose KARA is trying to gain wider credo in Japan, but at a time when interest in K-pop there is slowly declining (or I was told).

0048 was written very well as a drama (and surprisingly doesn't have the usual Okada controversy), but this one? Judging from the synopsis, it looks it's written like a typical American cartoon -- and for kids:
Quote:
The fictional stories will feature each of the members in a different career: Gyuri as a police officer, Seungyeon as an astronaut, Nicole as a passenger boat captain, Hara as security police for the Monaco royal family, and Jiyoung as a sexy and spirited firefighter.

That was my reaction to the synopsis as well. AKB0048's story was based on a ridiculously silly premise, but the execution by all concerned was really first-rate.
