Hmm, I wonder if this means that their streaming stuff will go away? I've had the City Hunter remake in my queue (can't remember if its hulu or netflix though) for a while, as a fallback show, but something always catches my eye before I get to it. I might have to just dive in and see if it's even worth watching.

Oh no! They had some really nice releases - high quality art boxes, good subs. It's a shame they're shutting down.
I guess I have to skip buying anime for a little while and just focus on buying any interesting K-drama. |

At least I managed to by BOF and You're Beautiful before this happened. But now what? I didn't even know these guys even existed until last year!

It depends on how the contracts are written ~ if they are written to rollover unless the original rights owner exercises an option, they'd be OK, if they are written to not rollover unless YA gives an all-clear, they'd go dark as the rollover periods popped up. If its a fixed term, then they'd normally go dark at the end of the fixed term anyway, since leaving the stream in a catalog would rarely cover term renewal contracting costs. Obviously which it is will become clear over the coming year, and obviously we'd all rather know in advance. |

I suppose I'll always have the store down the street from my house with stacks and stacks of DVD-R'd K-Dramas if I must.

Who cares about Korean dramas on a site about anime? Korea has nothing to do with glorious Nippon or anime.

There's quite a significant overlap between the fandoms, and if you'd actually bothered to read the article, instead of just making judgements, a lot of this company's stuff is streamed on Crunchyroll, so they may lose them too. |

It doesn't matter, this is not a site about Korean drama or Crunchyroll, it is a site about Japanese animation and related Japanese things. |

As noted in the article, several of YA Entertainment's titles were adaptations of Japanese manga, such as Boys Over Flowers and City Hunter. |

If you don't care then don't click it. The fandoms and the industries both heavily overlap, so whether you like it or not it's relevant. If you don't like it then just don't bother with the articles and releases rather than spam the thread with demands that things only be seen the way you demand of them. |

So if it's Japanese drama, it;s a big deal right?? If it's Korea or another country, then you don't give a crap. Yeah very racist of you. Oh and what about ANN reporting this. |

I was so sad when I read this in their November newsletter last week, especially since I'd been hoping they'd be releasing Faith (which I just finished last week btw and it is fantastic). I'd emailed them back in September shortly after it started, imploring them to consider it and the email I got back-- they always responded personally to fan emails, which was a nice touch-- indicated they were going to try.
Anyway, literally less than 10 minutes after I read that newsletter I ordered both Boys Over Flowers sets 1 & 2 at RightStuf, which are on their way to me at this very moment (I swear to god I'm gonna work past my issues with Lee Min Ho's strange hair in this series and watch it and love it), and the week prior I'd already coincidentally ordered the City Hunter boxset (or maybe not coincidentally considering the star of all the aforementioned titles. What can I say?). To be honest, there aren't like a ton of YAE releases I want that I don't already have, but I do wish I could afford to plunk down for at least a handful more before they go OOP (specifically 49 Days, Lie to Me, Prosecutor Princess, My Lovely Sam-soon, Secret Garden, and Someday). But after that unplanned $90 BOF purchase I'll just have to wait and hope the titles I want don't sell out at RightStuff before I can grab them over the next few months. In short, this sucks. P.S.

I'll tell you why I was interested until I realized it was some unrelated Koren nonsense: YA Entertainment is also the name of a Japanese company that publishes LN's and sponsors production of anime adaptations among other things (not inconceivable they might have been licensing K dramas). I was very upset because I have been importing the No. 6 novels, published by them. Of course I had to read it to find out otherwise, because the title was confusing. Again, it isn't about racism but more about being off topic even if it happens to have fandom cross appeal. This is legit criticism, although I admit I was rather angry when I first posted and was a bit of an ass about it. Still, both you and Key lock posts about OEL animation in the Anime forum, so clearly this site has standards that apply. I see no reason why fans of K drama and Manhwa can not get their news elsewhere. Otherwise, we might as well include anything, however tenuous, if it even remotely has cross appeal with the anime fandom. I surely hope not. |
