My hats off these guys. Finally, a cool "Free For All" anime service for anime fans. Comcast could learn a lesson from Akimbo by offering anime for free instead of forcing everyone to pay extra for their Digital service.
Most anime should be for free by subscribers of their basic services. This is just a cheap way of getting more people to sign up for Pay for Services. Akimbo is on the right track, now if only Comcast would follow in their lead. |

And how, may I ask, would Comcast give people On Demand without digital service, seeing as On Demand is a solely digital component requiring the set-top box? Most of their anime is free for the ones who get even the most basic of digital services, the only paid anime on there are the 'uncut' shows such as Gantz and Elfen Lied. Considering there's no less than 40 shows on Anime Selects, AS On Demand, and TAN On Demand...and there's only about 5 shows on the SVOD side of TAN, it would be pretty obvious that most of their content is still free. |

From the way I read this news item, Akimbo is offering part of "The Anime Network" as a free service but is setting up another part of the network as a "Video On Demand" service. Comcast DOES NOT offer any part of TAN to ANY of its subscribers. I'm a subscriber to their extended basic plan which gives the channels through the Sci Fi channel and all of that along with Broadband Cable Internet.
In order to receive TAN, subscribers have to purchase the subscriber is to purchase the second level of Digital Cable, which costs an extra $30-50. Getting the anime for free isn't free if you are forced to fork over extra money just to get one channel. |

Go to their website and check out the price point for the hardware. Cable TV just met its Waterloo. And it doesn't know it's under attack yet.
Expect to hear some rumbles soon about "regulating this technology in order to protect the consumer." I give it 12-18 months max until the cable companies launch a counter-attack to slow the growth of this market. |

Their basic Digital package comes with free On Demand, which is what TAN is shown on. What Akimbo is offering is the similar service as that, they aren't offering TAN's linear broadcast but a VOD offering. I use both the basic and third-tier digital packages in two locations, and I recieve every VOD program on the basic digital that I do on the third-tier. You pay nothing extra for VOD service, you only pay for the package and any SVOD programming you desire. |

I'm a little disappointed in the details available on the site. I'd like to know more about the download-to-own. How much extra does it cost? And what media are you allowed to put the recording on? If it's got to be kept in their box, forget it.

You could email their customer service or call them for more questions?
Right now it looks like there's a sale on their hardware box. Very tempting. I mostly use VOD for anime and this is far cheaper than the cable offerings, but still offers much more content. |
