As much as I would love to see those characters together... I kind of hope this isn't canon.

Not so much "left out" as "kicked out and asked not to come back."
In defense of Macross II, I did like it. It's just not canon.

It was in Ultimate Frontier and had it's plot in Triangle Frontier.
I think what they're trying to do with this is more so keep things consistent what with tech and plot, hence is why they're not including II.

I, for one, applaud the expedient utility of such a plot device. Perhaps a force of similar agency could be used to converge Gundam universes without losing face completely.

Plot sounds weird, considering these guys suppose to be playing in Real Robot universe where the machines/mecha are suppose to be break able and not Super Robots. Having them suddenly appear on one world sounds more like Super Robot Wars situation, with perhaps less plot.
Sounds like it will be fun shooter, but i too don't want this to be canon.
Though would explain what heck happened to Lynn Minmay, Hikaru Ichijyo and Alto. They were all (in movie Alto was) lost at some point for some reason in Macross history.

Macross Zero ended with a missing Valkyrie pilot, too.
