First off I apologize but I wasn´t sure where to post this or if it is even allowed in this website but here goes.

The other day I was watching the news and I saw that two kids, they were like 17, were beating up a hobo with bats and where caught on tape. The first thing I thought was GANTZVolume 7. During these episodes there is a scene where two teens bash in a hobo´s head for fun and personally I thought this was just something off of the creators head but I didn´t know it was real. Has this been going on for a long time? At first I thought Oh crap I hope he doesn´t say he saw it on an anime during his trial.

Does this occur a lot in Japan? More instances where it has occured in America? I figured it´s sort of Anime related because I saw it in Gantz but I want to know more and don´t know where to ask.

Voilence against the homeless is not new. Google it and you'll find lots of activist pages, newsarticles, etc. on it in countless nations around the world.

Gantz isn't the only (or 1st) anime to depict this type of violence. Tokyo Godfathers is another, and then there's Paranoia Agent in which nearly every episode has someone getting beaten up by the kid with the bat.

In this instance it's not life imitating art, it's the artform incorporating actual problems in society.

I also didn't really think about the "hobo bashing" in real life before. It's pretty disturbing to actually know that people really do that. In anime I've only seen it in Gantz as well. I don't really need to see that anyway.

I sorry, but I think gamers best friend, Jack Thompson, got it right, again.
Quote:
"Referencing the Florida beatings, Jack Thompson urges - nay, demands - that Mr. Eibeler recall 3 of his company's most violent games: The Warriors, Manhunt, and all the Grand Theft Auto titles. Mr. Thompson notes that the recall must be announced by 5:00 p.m. yesterday "or [he] and others shall proceed to secure appropriate remedies against your company in these regards...please govern yourself accordingly - for a change."
He forgot "The Bully", which is due out pretty soon. Razz

Yea, I don't know about in Japan, but I know it happens enough in America. Where I used to live before I came to college we didn't have many homeless people...but now I live in Philadelphia and they're everywhere. I myself have not seen violence to a homeless person, however, I am aquainted with people (unfortunately) who talk about the things they've done to homeless people. I haven't talked to them in about a year because of this and other things they're involved in (thank god), but this happens often enough.

I really wonder what goes on in someone's head before they do something like that. What kind of motivation does someone need to just go out and do that? Anime dazed

No, no. Teenagers doing fracked-up stuff, I can understand. That's what teens have always done, to some extent -- making a mess of their own lives (and others').

No, it was the James Bulger case, in the UK, that really broke past my barriers.

You've never seen or read A Clockwork Orange, have you? Wink This sort of thing isn't just anime-related; it's been going on for years and years all over the world.

That's very sad, but it doesn't surprise me. Last year, one of my old high school friends shot and killed two people and then committed suicide. And two months ago, my little brother's best friend strangled his mother and grandfather to death.

We live in a horrible world. We just have to try to make the best of things.

I love how they always turn to video games as the source of the problem. Just blame video games. Forget the fact that these kids have underlying psychological problems to begin with.

Seriously, you see violence everywhere. TV, movies, games, etc. It isn't exclusive to just one type of media. I get angry when they decide to target just one type when it's everywhere. Some people are simply screwed up from day one.

Wow that was facked up I didn't even know about this case. 10 year old kids for Jebus' sake. I'm 19 and of course I already know how the world works but I still can't understand how someone would bring themselves to beat a harmless person to death in a painful manner. I act tough in the exterior acting like anything doesn't get to me but yet everything does. When I see oppression, bullies, and just accidents happen to people I feel bad inside and I'm just surprised what man can do.

Who ever said anime hasn't taught us anything about harsh reality I mean of all places/series I'm informed on this topic by GANTZ. Does anyone else know what case I'm talking about and do they need their punishment. When I saw the news I think one of the two was caught I'm not sure but I would have no idea how to look this case up online.

Do most of you guys live in the white suburb? Because if you've ever been around or seen homeless people in the urban area, they get treated badly every day. But then again, it's not like homeless are the kindest or most justly citizen either. You give them money to buy something to eat and hope they don't use it on drugs or alcohol.

You mean you never heard of the popular "Bum Fight" video or seen the advertisement of it on TV? They get two homeless people to fighting each other to a bloody pulp and the participant gets meals, alcohol, or money. I think the simpson made fun of it in one of their episode also. Yes there are thoundsand of sick people that enjoy these kind of stuff. Sadly, I don't condon such activies, but people still do a lot of fucked up thing in society like rape, murder etc. That's just reality.

Also Spawn (comic) too, since he hang around with homeless people and they get beat up a lot or kill off.
