ANN: your headline makes it sound as if Pokemon was what made Donna Summers famous. I read the note and saw that you mentioned Summer's achievements before Pokemon, but the headline is, I do not know, kind of sensationalist.

I know, but ANN seems to be manufacturing anime news. The death of Donna Summer is a way bigger loss to the U.S. music industry than to anime.

We wrote the headline so that people who don't see the article's introduction will immediately grasp her connection with anime. We understand that she was a disco legend first and foremost, and that her Pokémon song was just one entry in her vast repertoire.

We were debating whether to make this a regular article or a brief, but that question was answered when readers kept emailing us tips about this news this morning. At least to these readers, this was worth reporting.

Not too mention there has to be plenty of anime fans who enjoy her music she did generally.

At any rate, may she rest in peace.

I was shocked to read she had passed because I didn't believe she was that old (63 is far too young to die at these days), but I had no idea she was battling cancer. May she rest in peace.

It's sad that Donna Summer's passed away. I was born in 1974 so I was around when she had her big hits. I might not have known about them until later but still I was around. I didn't even know she had cancer! It's a real shame. I certainly do know about her "Pokemon 2000" theme.
Again,it's a real shame about Donna Summer. She certainly deserved to have made some more music. Sixty-three may be slightly old but still she could have made some more music. It's sad to go,even at that age.

My GAWD!! Are you serious? Didn't expect to see a news entry like this on ANN. And this is the first I'm hearing this. Then again I didn't know that Donna Summer was involved with a Pokemon vocal. Man we're losing all our greats. Chuck Brown was announced yesterday. I caught that last night. He was Go-Go and she was still of the Disco Era. But then are they so far away.

RIP Donna Summer. Crying or Very sad

I'm one of the people cited in the article for sending in a news tip. Like I explained when I emailed ANN, I felt this news revelant and would be of interest to ANN readers due to Donna performing "The Power of One" for Pokemon The Movie 2000, as well as the fact that that song had gained notoriety over the past six months due to Herman Cain's campaign.

Like Snomaster, I was born in the mid-1970s, so I was also around when Donna Summer had her big hits; however, I didn't really hear those songs until I was older. When I finally did hear her disco hits, I ended up liking a lot of them.

I kind of remember hearing "She Works Hard For The Money" when I was a little girl, but my first real memory of Donna's music comes from hearing "This Time I Know It's For Real" on the radio when it was a current single in 1989. I was in the 8th grade then. Production-wise, it was a typical late-80s Stock-Aitken-Waterman production, so it sounded like it could have been recorded by any of the artists in their stable then (such as Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, etc.) However, Donna brought something to that song that other vocalists wouldn't have. I really liked that song in 1989, and I still love it now.

I was actually quite surprised when I saw Pokemon The Movie 2000 and discovered that Donna had done a song for it. But I thought she did a great job on "The Power of One."

Well I'm glad ANN posted something about Donna Summer's passing. I wasn't sure if she had any connection to Anime since I'd forgotten about the Pokemon movie stuff from earlier this year.

Personally I was flat out shocked when I heard the news on the way home tonight. I knew she wasn't really that young anymore but I didn't realize she had been battling cancer so it felt like it came out of the blue. For me, it has been like losing a piece of my childhood. Disco was at its height when I was in Jr. High and Donna Summer was the top mainstream artist for the Disco music genre. While I was never a huge Disco fan (Arena Rock and MOR (Middle Of the Road), and Country, were much more popular, music wise, in the area I grew up in) she really was a stand out artist for the field and crossed genres because of that.

RIP Donna Summers Sad
