Alright, I get to buy 2 anime dvd collections. I don't own any already, and I'm only getting boxed sets. I'm getting the complete cowboy bebop, and I need to choose between the complete trigun or the first arc of rurouni kenshin. currently, price is not an issue, so don't compare that. I just want to know which show is better, also, if you rate it or something, don't take off points or add them because of english voice acting, I usually watch it subbed (however, if the voice acting is good, you could mention it).

well Trigun is only 26 episodes, so it's probably your best bet. most agree that kenshin pretty much sucks after the Kyoto arc.

In regards to Bebop, are you getting all of the 2000-individuals, the 3-disc bootleg, or the remix (which mind you, isn't completely out yet)?

Rurouni Kenshin is a somewhat more childish series, however it does share a lot with Trigun in regards to feel, themes, and other such. Both were finished before their respective comics were done, each feature an outgoing, somewhat dofus of a character who has a fairly intruiging and sad past, and they both go along and make friends and fight a bevy of weird and wonderful villians, abeilt at a different pace.

Trigun is self contained, whereas Kenshin has several arcs and stories, so overall it is a more costly venture and may not appeal to you after a while (there's some... questionable filler. However, it does have one of the most super OVA series ever attached to an Anime propery released in the US as "Samurai X"). Trigun also features a very talented and well-produced English dub that overall matches and outdoes it's Japanese counterpart.

It winds down to what you want more. Do you prefer Samurai Drama, or Sci-fi/Wild West hijinks? 26 episodes or around 100?

(Note: if you do intend on picking either up, either wait for the Budget collection for the first season of kenshin, which comes out sometime in november, or the remastered and nicer looking metal tin Trigun limited edition boxsets, which come out December/January)

I would say Trigun. Kenshin's first season isn't that great...
and for Trigun, you would get teh whole series!

I second Trigun. If you want Kenshin then I suggest getting only the Kyoto Arc and then just watch the other two arcs at friends houses if they have it.

As big a Kenshin fan as I am, I'd have to recommend Trigun.

Kenshin will always be my favorite anime for its fun characters and super dramatic and well written/directed Kyoto arc. However, if your choice is only between all of Trigun and the first season of Kenshin, I'd go with Trigun, hands down.

Trigun is a series with tremendous displays of human emotion, especially around the middle and towards the latter part of the show. The comedy at the beginning was very enjoyable and well supported by the English dubbing.

Mind you, I've only seen the series once and in English, but from the snippets of audio comparissons I've heard, my opinion is much like the majority in saying the dub is very, very excellent (or whatever word you associate for being "good.")

If you ever decide to get Kenshin, I'd recommend you go in the following order (to purchase and/or watch):

Season 1
Season 2
The Movie (optional)
Tsuioku-hen (the first OAV)
Seisouhen (the second OAV, optional)

I could go on and on about the world of Kenshin and why I like/dislike certain aspects (like the bad dubbing), but that would take too long, and the eventual post would probably scare you away Anime cry..

In terms of anime, Trigun is superior to the first season of Rurouni Kenshin. Kenshin as a whole (including the OVAs) is no doubt better. Kenshin's manga is better than Trigun's. However, if you are only comparing Trigun with season 1 of Kenshin, stick to Trigun.

Both Trigun and Rurouni Kenshin are great series and they both have really good English tracks in my opinion. But in your situation I'd have to suggest Trigun as it's a single box set of 26 episodes and not 95 episodes over 3 box sets.

Much like the general consensus here Trigun is your best bet. While I like Kenshin more, it is a huge financial commitment. Bebop and Trigun are both great anime that should be viewed by everyone, there very good choices if you have never seen them before.

Trigun for sure. I dont much care for the first arc of Kenshin either. Although personally I thought the first half of Trigun was a waste of time. The Gun-Ho Guns and Knives were really well animated fight/shoot out scenes and just awesome if you are an action fan.

First of all both shows are terrific (Even though the manga for both shows is a lot better). If money is not an issue you mine as well get both but as a few have touched upon already you would be buying a lot more episodes if you went with Kenshin. With Kenshin you can't just stop with first arc, your gonna wanna watch the second arc, the Kyoto arc and then from there even though everyone will tell you to stop you will watch the last arc and be very dissapointed. Then you will wanna buy the movies which are excellent as well as so on and so on. So in the long run 26 episodes of Trigun will be the better buy.

I dont see why you can't figure this out on your own, read the synopsis of both, which are quite similar, just different setting and figure out which one is more interesting to you. Both feature great character designs, story, english dub, villains. Is it just me or is anyone getting sick of threads like these? I swear I just saw a Cowboy Bebop or Trigun and so on...... Just look at he ratings for each show in the encyclopedia and there ya go.

I've never really seen that much of Rurouni Kenshin expect for randomly showed episodes on Cartoon Network on and off, so I don't really have a say about it if it's better then Trigun. But I have seen the whole seires of Trigun and think so far it's better then Kenshin. Plus the dub of Trigun is better then Kenshin in my opinion. But I say go for Trigun.

But everyone taste is different.
