This film is looking pretty good. I don't know much about the story, but the action scenes in the promos appear rather impressive.

Still don't get why they are trying to create identifiable live action movies out of manga characters; these characters are drawn in a way that in 99% of the time will never be able to be adapted into live action at all.
This looks to be another live action that looks gaudy in my eyes at least. I'll give a good example: Prince of Persia the movie was a relatively good live action adaptation of the game, because the actor actually looked rather similar to the main character of the game. I might just be very picky, but I don't think any of these live action adaptations have any actors who look even remotely similar to the characters they are portraying. However I'm looking to compare these two shows and not looking just for a continuation of some series that I liked, so for those of us with more vivid imagination than I, these might float your boat. |

That is a ton of content to try and stuff into a film from the arcs that the clips show. I feel skeptical that the film itself will be anything of depth rather than just sloppily put together fan fare. It seems like it would have to rely heavily on a previous knowledge of the content in order to be able to connect with the film at all. That's just an impression who knows maybe they'll surprise me.

The way this looks reminds me of Kamui Gaiden a couple years back. It was a pretty average modern chanbara; a genre that seems analogous to the western in that they're genres with SO many movies made mostly decades ago. Directing one of these must be an intimidating proposition, unless of course you're Takashi Miike. Would that we could have seen Riki Takeuchi as Hajime Saito...

I think it looks good. I loved that picture of Saitou in gatotsu stance.
I also loved hearing Kenshin's speech pattern. |

^^this it looked like it covered the entire first season of the anime. unless this movie is going to be 6 hours long, it's going to be rushed. i'm extremely skeptical about this now.

1. RK doesn't have ridiculous character designs, they are pretty tame for a anime so making a movie based of RK works. Especially when you have RK which is standard shonen art style and OVA's (Samurai X) which has a more adult realistic style. The movie seems like a perfect mix of both. 2. The actors in this movie look like real life version of the anime. So again I don't see why you are complaining. I only agree with your point when it comes to something like the live action Death Note movie and the horrible live action Dragonball movie. But who is the guy with the white hair and shiny outfit fighting kenshin? I hope that isn't Shinomori Aoshi. |

Wow. Sato Takeru's Kenshin is brilliant! There's a very natural sort of gentle innocence to his opening portrayal of Kenshin that contrasts the battousai persona so well. Looking at that scene in the trailer where Kaoru first meets Kenshin, there's a sense that there's no way this man could have assassinated so many people. Love it!

But please keep in mind, the main audience (which is of course Japanese) is one that is already quite familiar with the story. So this is just a live-action retelling of a favorite story, for which they will fill in the blanks themselves. That's how I'm going to view it. |
