I like Go Nagai, but Dezaki's better for the job.

With a TV show running, isn't this unecessary?

Nagai, stick to shlock. It's what you're best at.

Well it is his baby so I guess it's time for that to get a make over. Just about most of his popular shows got a revamp. 'Cutey Honey' and 'Devilman' being one. So it's not so much a surprise, but in a way it is because it's one of his titles that hasn't had a remake.

Now if he's supervising then who knows what he wants. Will this one be close to the original manga?

Never saw the original, not really interested even though I am a fan of his work.

There's a TV remake, but not a manga remake, which is what I believe Nagai is refering to making. Either way, this doesn't necessarily mean anything.

There is one, illustrated by Kenji Yamamoto, and I've read it with my own eyes.

Time to add it to the Encyclopedia....

Amen, Crotchspike. Go Nagai is everyman's anime creator.

Go Nagai is also refreshingly honest about what he puts into his anime and manga. He likes demons, breasts, fights, and melodramatics, and hopes that the people who also enjoy those things get entertainment from his work.

Every person I've spoken with who's talked to Go Nagai has said that he's actually a sweet guy with nothing but adoration for his fans. Unlike some creators who claim their fans "don't get their work" (looking your way, Kawamori and Oshii) or whose work is pratically masturbatory (Akamatsu, Anno), Go Nagai is one of the creators who a man of the people.

Black jack is a Osamu Tezuka work (Astro Boy, Kimba, rablhabkhkw whatever), not a Go Nagai one.

Hey I love Nagai. I even bought the R2 DVD of Re: Cutie Honey. (ADV, why won't you bring this over?!) I just don't see him doing Black Jack that well.

But hey, if he proved me wrong, I'll be nothing but happy about it.

Oh, I see what you mean. If this ever does happen though, it's at least sure to be interesting (whatever that ends up meaning).

So I don't suppose anyone would know offhand if this already existing manga remake is any good?

There's already a Black Jack anime running right this second, and it's excellent. The new manga looks cool, even if BlackJack looks kinda creepy with that vampire stare.

In light of this, this is like if Steven Spielberg said "I think there should be a prequel to Star Wars where we get to see Anakin become Darth Vader." Cause, um, yeah.

Actually, George Lucas wanted Steven Spielberg to direct Star Wars Episode III. Spielberg couldn't, because he's in the director's guild and Lucas isn't.

Oh, and the 10 episode Black Jack OVA rocks until about halfway through, when it mysteriously goes down the crapper. Black Jack episode 6 is appallingly awful (it's one of those terrible "dream episodes") and the episodes after it aren't that great either. It's a real shame because the first few episodes were brilliant. I haven't seen the TV series though, so hopefully that's better.

I'm not sure Go Nagai should do a new manga version of Black Jack, but I would say that with Osamu Tezuka dead, Go Nagai is one of the best manga artists still loving. I don't understand why he's so controversial - anyone who likes fun should like Go Nagai. His works may not be extremely deep, but they're not generic crap either. He's genuinely trying to please his fans by making his works as entertaining as possible.

Forget the naked chicks. I love Go Nagai for all the guys. Obviously it's much better to fight without clothes. I can already see BlackJack operating...clothes optional...That little girl(isn't she a teen?), if included, would probably appreciate the Nagai upgrade.
But it probably won't happen.
