what is with the changing of hair colors in anime & mangas?
like for example in the anime Silent Mobius Kiddy has red hair, but in every other thing i've seen she has green hair. and in Excel Saga Hyatt has blue hair but in every other promo picture i've seen her hair is red. does it just look better animated or something? sorry if this sounds stupid, it's just something i've always wondered about. |

It's a matter of format.
In anime, character models are more or less set in stone, right down to their color scheme, and all animators must adhere to the main character model when drawing and coloring each and every cel of animation. If a character's hair is red, then it better be the same shade of red for every cel. In manga, the artists can do whatever they want because it's a different media. Generally they stick with one or two colors, but for fun they can color their characters' hair something different. There's a lot more leeway for this when it's just printed media. Color plates are only reserved for the covers and first few pages in a tankoubon so they can afford to be a little artsy. The rest of the time, it's all black and white. It's all the same when you print thousands of copies of it. |
