Hopefully, and god willing, they'll adapt the remaining part of the manga series and adapt it anime to finish what began with the first two television series.
I have all eight anime DVD's and have been anxiously awaiting for a new anime for this series.

I hope they do choose to finish animating it (it seems Aoi's popularity hasn't waned a bit), but I hope it isn't 90% random hijinx and filler and 10% plot advancement like Enishi was.

I didn't even know that AYA was still ongoing...
How can you stretch a harem series out over ten years?

You stretch it out of ten years by making it a true romance series focusing on the trials and tribulations of one specific couple and the people around them.
Oh! My Goddess has been running in Japan since the late 80's by doing quite the same thing.

The only problem is that OMG! is far better written and diverse than AYA. Not only are the comedy and adventure stories well done, but the characters develop very well without any melodrama. Ai Yori Aoshi can be endearing, but most of the time it's just annoyingly repetative slice-of-life stories. The central relationship is a bit boring as well. I don't think the story is nessisarily bad, as when Fumizuki does decide to develop the characters it's usually interesting and it's generally an enjoyable read. But I also don't think it deserves a place in amoung classic romance manga.

Hey now, haven't said it's a classic yet.
It's a great read, and it's one of the series that affirms my faith that I'm in the right genre, but the characters don't have quite the presence of the Ryokos and Belldandys of this world.
But I'm glad they've been around for a while, and have enjoyed every bit of their time in print - and on screen - in the states.

You took the words right out of my mouth as I could not have said that any better myself.
Here's hoping for an animated OVA to cover the end of this series.

I haven't read the manga, but the anime was hardly a "true romance." I suppose the manga could be better later on, but I found the anime to be terribly generic except that Aoi was even worse because of her submissiveness and lack of will for herself. If the manga has a better romance, I may actually read it.

That's still going to? How many volumes is it? OMG!/AMG! however, I can see going on for a while with goddesses and various plot arcs etc.

According to the encyclopedia here, it's up to 30 volumes in Japan. Vol. 21 just came out in the States not too long ago. I was sad to see the monthly series end, though, as I had damn near every issue of it.

the Oh My Goddess manga is actually in volume 31 and chapter 201 right now in Japan.
DarkHorse comics is re-releasing the manga in the US in the unflipped format and with the original artwork and extras starting in volume 1. Volumes 21, 22 are unflipped and available for pre-order.
Volume 1 and 2 are also available for pre-order and are unflipped and using the original format, color extras and all. (I have volume 1 preordered)

does anybody know the total tankouban count of Ai Yori Aoshi?
ALSO, my comment on this series is that I like it alot. it's not a dirty harem series per se but a very sweet, charming story with a nice plot and occasional nudity . i just read #10 and i found it to be quite thrilling with the events of what kauru is going to be doing.
if you don't like it, simply don't buy it. there's no point comparing it to OMG. OMG is not even in my mind the best romance shounen comic. Love Hina holds that place and even ranma 1/2 with all his fiancees is higher on that list.
Honestly though, I dont know too much about OMG.
