In Japan at least, this proves the Universal Century still has selling power.

Think we'll see a full-scale revival of the UC timeline? Or will we see continuing expansion of the SEED saga? Personally, I'd like to see both, provided any further UC stories can avoid beating the One-Year-War-dead-horse anymore.

Well, that's good news. It's funny that it took this many years for a movie to come out for the 'Zeta' series. And usually when you get one fans start worrying if it will be any good. Well, if anyone could have done it right it's Tomino after all he created the 'Gundam' universe.
I'm very impressed that this movie did well. Even though times have changed the franchise is still holding.
I'm curious to know where this movie wil fit in relation to the TV series.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's a compilation of the first 14 episodes.
I'm certainly glad that UC Gundam is still doing alright in Japan, at least. I just wish it was doing better here, rather than that Gundam SEED garbage.

Seeing as how UC is the backbone of what is by far Bandai's biggest property, I think having it do so well would be a given. And yes, the Zeta Gundam movie is the first 14 episodes, ending with Amuro & Char meeting up again after Amuro went all kamikaze with the shuttle.
As for "revival" this and "continuation" that, I remember rather well an interview with one of Bandai's (or was it Sunrise's?) execs or something, where it was stated that the Gundam franchise was apparently going to become "dual-generation" in a word. The new generation of fans SEED created will get more of that, while at the same time projects catering to the older fans that grew up with Mobile Suit Gundam & Zeta Gundam will also be produced (the Zeta Gundam movie trilogy and MS IGLOO being produced simultaneous to Gundam SEED Destiny being a good example).
