Where do you usually purchase your anime? In DVD stores? or online?

Both. From BestBuy as well as VideoUniverse and DeepDiscountDVD.com.
It all depends on where the best deal is. |

I use Best Buy when I don't feel like waiting. When I have a lot of time, I use Deep Discount DVD, Overstock, or Best Prices. For more comments by other users, try looking here.

I usually buy my anime from Best Buy and occasionally from Sam Goody or Suncoast during the few times I can get a better deal using my Replay Card. I almost never purchase on the internet unless I have to, because I'm afraid of getting a damaged artbox, dvd or cd case.

Actually, the chances of that happening are rare.

I depends I buy most of my DVDs from www.deepdiscountdvd.com Complete collections for sure because of the excellent prices and lack of shipping charge. With single volumes and films it's either there or Best Buy, and with artboxes I usually pick those up at a physical store whenever possible now, after the USPS destroyed my Infinite Ryvius vol. 1 with artbox and I had to send it back and exchange it. I should have taken a picture of the thing it looked like they ran it over a few times with the truck, yet still had the gall to leave it at my doorstep.

I try to buy them at Best Buy as there's no shortage of them around here and they're pretty cheap. Problem I have with Best Buy is sometimes I have to travel to several stores to find what I need, especially on the day of release as it never seems they either buy enough or put them out until later.
If need be I'll go to Suncoast, which I generally dislike because most everything costs about $10 more there. |

I'm a Best Buy gal too. I go there at least once a week to see what's out, although sometimes I don't buy anything. I also have a Replay card for Suncoast, but I usually use that for buying soundtracks, manga, action figures, or mainstream films. Unless a title I want is on sale. For older titles (has anyone else noticed that any anime over two years old mysteriously disappears from stores?) I usually use ebay, where I dodge all of the bootlegs and usually find pretty nice deals on R1 releases.

Before I moved, I bought them at Montreal's superb Metro Video, as well as DVD Passion (which I believe just closed), and the downtown Montreal HMV (which also had a very good selection).
Since I still haven't found the Ottawa equivalent to Metro Video, if there is any, and since the Ottawa HMVs don't have nearly the selection, I buy them at a nearby store called The Comic Book Shoppe, which had far better prices than most comic book stores in Montreal (though, to be fair, I mostly stopped buying anime from comic book stores around 2001, so I'm sure prices in general have come down a bit there too). |

I'm surprised that most everybody who has responded so far, has said Best Buy. I shop at two private businesses for my manga and anime. Orbit 2 (Orbit Squared) and Anime Club. Orbit is in Walnut California and Anime Club is in Montclair California. I tend to like specialty shops more than mass merchants like Best Buy. Private specialty shops tend to have a more elaborate stock to choose from.

I usually buy my anime at Hobby/Comic bookstores, though I try to find them used. I buy Ghibli/Disney DVDs at Best Buy or Price Costco, and a local Walmart has a lot of marked down anime. Zellers occasionally has marked down stuff too. It's usually not quality anime, but at $4.99 to $8.99 per DVD, it's easy to take the risk to find out!

I buy most of my new DVDs at Deep Discount DVD or The Right Stuf International. Lately, my used stuff has been coming from Half Price Books.

I also buy from Deep Discount DVD, but that is not the only place that I shop. I only buy online now. There are not many options where I live to buy anime. I could drive a few hundred miles away to find a good store, but I'd rather walk ten feet to my computer and click the mouse a few times. Plus, I get my exercise for the day.
![]() I buy from sites depending on price and how fast it will get to me. Sometimes I do buy from Amazon or AnimeNation if I want the product right away and they are the only ones who carry it, but there are usually better deals with equally fast shipping times out there. I do buy anime apparel from AnimeNation. I love anime t-shirts! Sometimes I'll buy entire anime series from one site. If I bought the first DVD of a series from a site and really liked it, then I'll return to that site to purchase the rest of the series. Of course some sites, like Deep Discount DVD, don't carry all the DVDs in a series (they didn't have DVD 7 of Neon Genesis: Evangelion) so I have to look elsewhere. |
