Do you guys think that if Tokyo pop got all they're best titles like gundam, Bebop, Tokyo Mew Mew, SGT frog, Etc that they can create a better Monthly magazine for us than what Viz has, I mean Creating for not just us but the tweens aswell, better put every one. I believe They can and they should try. They should first start with a sample issue and see how it sells then move from there. I mean they are heavy hitters even though they don't have the shounen novel stuff. but what do you think?

I believe you'll see alot of the stuff your describing with the release of the Takuhai magazine. It's looking like its something very close to what you're describing...

Takuhai... well not really because Takuhai doesn't have any brand titles that many would look at the cover and recognize it to buy it. I was thinking a magazine just filled with their latest and best titles like Beck, Mew Mew Ala Mode, SGT frog, Gundam astray things that will grab the eyes of those who never heard of the magazine and who know anime etc.

So you're saying two manga by CLAMP and Princess Ai aren't recognizable? Besides, it's good to read something new and not the usual mainstream. (Not that the things you mentioned were "mainstream", but you get my point, right?) I actually want to read RG Veda, Legal Drug, and Lagoon Engine.

Yeah I get your point but If they could get the manga rights to Death note (Before VIZ does) and Gantz and others and launch the magazine a month before they release the novels then that would really be kick ass I mean shonen Jump is wack now and I think Takuhai should be like that full of new and fan fav's and things that are recognized and are on television to push it.

The problem there though is that Viz gets alot of their licenses because theire parent company in Japan holds most of those and does not license them out to others like TP, or ADV, Delrey...etc. So the remaining companies have to hunt down other hot properties that aren't held by shueisha shogakku (spelling? sorry), which sometimes are in slim pickings. Then TP, ADV, del rey, etc... compete for those remaining licenses making it somewhat like abidding war...
But going back to Takuhai, i think you'll see preview of alot of upcoming titles as well as tidbits of future volumes of existing titles and other bonus stuff. I believe it was meant to be shonen-jump, with Tp properties and other bonus things as well.

I hope Takuhai Does good and opens with a bang to shut up Shonen jump and Viz because Viz is starting to get me on my last nerves with how they do things.

Takuhai will be nothing more than a preview magazine just like the old Tokyopop sneaks magazine. There will be NO full chapters in it and they will not repeat the same title more than once. It would be foolish if Tokyopop made a magazine with full chapters. All companies know that the graphic novels sell better, even Viz. Why do think that that they took so many pages out of Shonen Jump? Because the graphic novel sales are much higher than the magazine. Not only that, it takes too long to publish with only a chapter or two coming out a month.

I never liked the Shonen Jump magazine that much, it's going down the drain anyway, but if you're tired of Shonen Jump there are alot of other manga magazines out there.

People say TP license a lot of unknown stuff thus they automatically think it's crap. Kind of unfair, people should definitely try out other manga than the ones they already heard about.
Takuhai got me interested.
Tokyopop has a lot of title that I'm interested in but not familar with such as Blade of Heaven. Takuhai is supposely a qaurterly magazine that "preview" titles that TP has. Was there any more info, like how many page, release date etc?

I believe the street date on Takuhai is set at July 12, maybe a little earlier. You will definately see it in the mail by then, and at cons over the summer. No word on page count and any other info yet.

Those titles are your opinion, of course, but Tokyopop could probably not get to serialize titles from Weekly Jump, because I think that's VIZ/SJ(USA)'s job. They have gotten Monthly Jump/Shonen Sunday titles, though. It would be interesting if they did, but they're probaby waiting for a more auspicious time. A lot of magazines are going around in tumoil now, with Animerica being cancelled, and Shoujo Beat debuting soon. If they ever have plans, it'll be when people have settled down with their magazines and can take the time and money to look into Tokyopop's hypothetical magazine and maybe subscribe.

If you guys were anime/manga fans back when TP was Mixx, you would remember that the had a free magazine line until the site got revamped and TP when translating manga like crazy. I'm guessing the magazine is going to be the same size and just as cheap as before. Rather thin too.
As for magazines publishing manga chapters, it doesn't work here in the US as well as it does in Japan. We, the consumers, all know a hard copy volume will be released and would rather buy the volume over the magazine, which was produced in lower quality paper and ink. Quality is quite important in American economy. If it's really good, then it's worth buying and vice-versa. Plus there may be some series in which the consumer doesn't like and some which they do. Because of this, they would also buy the manga volume. And if we want to preview the books, we can always go to a bookstore (excluding some Japanese bookstores that shrinkwarp their products) and read them.
The only people who would benefit from TP Takuhai are the ones who are pure leechers and careless about contributing to the manga market.

You make no sense. How is reading previews leeching? What's worse, reading previews and not buying something, or reading whole books in stores and not buying it? It seems you're the one who's leeching.
Mixx magazine was never free.

**shrugs** The Mixx/Tokyopop magazine were free for me. I just signed up for it and that's it. I never paid for it after that.
And BTW, I don't leech as what you are trying to claim. I don't read whole books unlike some people and I do buy untranslated and translated manga, mind you. Don't always assume that whatever a person says is what they do. That's pretty rude.
