So basically, like Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, just.......no Asians in the lead roles. Heaven forbid a movie loosely based in Asia is racially accurate.....

Live-action Warner film looks for Japanese-American Yamagata, Tetsuo & Ky preferably white. |
Fixed that for you.
C'mon, we all know that more likely than not this will end up being another whitewash.

Why the hell are they putting the any ethnicity tag on Tetsuo but put down the Japanese tag for Yamagata?
The name Tetsuo is not ambiguous as Li or even Naomi! When the name Tetsuo pops up, it's pretty obvious that Tetsuo is meant to be for a Japanese person!
Lastly, why are they keeping Tetsuo and Yamagata's names but changed Kaneda's name into Ky? It seems as usual that Hollywood thinks America is too scared of having a non-white main lead in a huge potential blockbuster film. Is there anymore reason why I dislike Hollywood for always favoring white actors the most over everyone else? Even if the production sounds that non-white actors should have been preferred but instead followed this bland standard?
Really, everything about this production just doesn't sound good each time I hear about it.

I think Ky = Kai (Kaisuke), not Kaneda.
They probably changed the spelling to "Ky" because stupid people (aka most people) will pronounce "Kai" like "Kay"

Hollywood needs to stop whitewashing movie roles! This isn't the Fifties anymore! Why must they keep casting white actors in lead roles? It's long been time for directors to stop this racist casting! This isn't like the '50s or '60s where they could cast an Italian guy as an American Indian in Westerns! Stick as close to ethnicity as possible, not-so-nice-people!
If they keep doing this crap, I will not watch this live-action Akira movie. In fact, I hope it bombs. Why change what was perfect?

There is no way they are going to leave the name as "Ky" if they were afraid of how badly stupid people would pronouce Kai.
