can anyone recommend some good horror manga... possibly along the lines of Junji Ito's work?

I've been searching for something on a par with Junji Ito's work, but it is not proving fruitful. As mentioned by logboy, Hideshi Hino's Hino Horror is worth a look.

Domu (by Katsuhiro Otomo) is one of the most well written horror/scifi stories you can read, and one of my personal favorites. Some very disturbing images, and creepy ideas about evil and social commentary that will have you thinking. Definitally check this out.
Orochi:Blood is another great horror manga, and it's much more traditional than Domu. Definitally pick this one up if you like Junji Ito's work. |

Lament of the Lamb is suppose to be really good too (from the review). I brought 4 volume of it, but never got around to reading it.

This is a bit of an old one from Viz, but I enjoyed Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki.

I'd also add Tomie (Junji Ito) to the list. The stories good, but the production values at Comics One are poor. It's still a good read.
You'll also want to read Dark Water (Koji Suzuki and Meimu). You may recognise Koji as the Author of Ringu, another good manga, and novel and film! JBV^_^ |

Maybe everybody's sick and tired of hearing this but Berserk, while marketed as fantasy, has actually lots of horror elements in it. So... get Berserk its great
Devilman is also really good plotwise but I dont know if it is licensed in US. But keep in mind that the art is very minimalistic. Yesterday I read the first volume of MPD Psycho and found it good. Its very cinematic and more a Thriller than straight-forward Horror. |

MPD Psycho is a very good read. There are some INSANE images in there. I'm pretty hard to shock when it comes to content, but Psycho is just disturbing. The plot is somewhat confusing at first, but it's worth it (and the plot does come together; it reminds me of 100 Bullets).
Parasite (another exellent read) is actually from Tokyopop (or Mizz as it was called at the time). |

HA! You're right. What the hell was I thinking? I have the correct publisher on the review. I blame my cat. |
