Wow. The sales must really be in the ditch.

Well I don't know about the novel but the anime is pretty bad most of the time.

This is Gainax. It's perfect.

Its currently projected as the 3rd worst selling anime of the Summer season, beating out only Itsuka Tenma and Cat God in preorders.

must say im not really suprised to hear that, whilst i enjoy watching it it has practically no replay value and i would have no desire to buy such a series, although im suprised Itsuka Tenma has worse preorder sales, i actually quite liked that series, certainly not the worst LN series thats been adapted recently anyway

Maybe the scary end credits are keeping buyers away
I was about to drop Dantalian but then the sixth episode got me interested again.

For the publisher to want to continue the series, I don't think the books necessarily had bad sells. It's not uncommon for a light novel author to have a predetermined image of how many volumes they want the series to be, only for it to be extended or cut short depending on sales. A good example of this is Totally Beauty and the Beast (ちょー美女と野獣), which was supposed to only have one volume. The sales were good enough that it wound up getting 21 volumes and a side series, but no anime.
Mikumo is acting like a diva by refusing to write more when the publisher asks for it. This type of behavior is going to make it much harder for him to get another series published.

Stuff without much sexual fanservice ain't really doing that well these days huh.
Quite a shame because the anime is rather charming.

I'm quite surprise, It might not be a series for everyone but I quite enjoy it, especially the interaction between the two lead.......... cancel really. I can see much worst series out that this season.
ic, it is only the OVA which isn't too much of a lost to me. The recent update made it clear that it was the between the author and his publisher. So the anime version is not involve nor does sales of the series matter.

well its good to hear the anime wasn't the problem, just some greedy editors wanting to milk something for all they can, good to hear Mikumo sticking to his guns and keeping what he had created intact, nothing worse than an drawn out series because someone pressured you into it (think Bleach Arrancar arc, wasn't supposed to be 4 years long, but public pressure for the arc extended it and drew it out too long and sorta ruined a good storyline, not that it wasn't good, just coulda been much better if it was shorter and not so drawn out)

Well since the article is about the editors wanting volumes of Dantalian to be written then the only issue with sales for the novel would be the editors thinking the sales(not story) warrant more volumes while the author is satisfied with the length of the series as is.

given that he wrote that comment before the update about the editors was added talk about the anime seemed pretty valid, although it obviously has no worth now though

Ehh? The editors want more so how can sales be poor? Its the mangaka doesn't want to extend the story further.
As for the anime adaption I really like it but its not the otaku type of show that will have strong DVD/BD sales. Definitely Gainax who will always take a risk and produce odd shows that no one else will. Still my fav studio.

Got to admire the integrity of the author for not taking the money to churn out more, but going "No, look, it's FINISHED" and turning the publisher down.
Far too many series out there get stretched out too thin to make more money.
