It would be a shame for many if Borders is sold off to the liquidators group and is shut down like Media Play was a few years back. I understand Borders is the only local large-scale bookstore in many towns throughout the country.
Many independent bookstores and comics shops are unable to carry much manga due to the ordering requirements from some of their distributors (*cough, cough* Diamond). I understand they usually are required to order a hefty minimum (either in quantity or cost) before their order would be honored. At least for me, even if the 2 Borders in town are closed down I still have 2 Barnes and Nobles, my trusty independent comics & games store (who does enough manga business to meet ordering requirements), or on-line stores (such as RightStuf, RACS, and others) to obtain my manga from. Good luck to the others that don't have those types of options. |

Aw, man. I hope Borders doesn't go away. I've been a loyal customer of theirs for years. I used to buy pretty much all my manga at the Waldenbooks in the mall (same company as Borders), and when they closed 5-½ years ago (after having been open since the 80s), I started going to Borders. Waldenbooks actually had the best selection of manga in the area during the first half of the 00s, but by time Waldenbooks had closed, Borders had greatly expanded their manga section, and now they have the best selection. If Borders closes, that leaves me with Barnes & Noble as the only bookstore in Augusta, and their manga section is half the size of Borders'. In fact, our B&N has always had a relatively bad selection compared to anyone else.

Translation #1: The publishers refused to back off on getting cash up front for purchases. Translation #2: We're gonna use the "Publishers refused to play easy with us," in order to justify the $6.5 Million fee Borders is gonna give us for being the first stalking horse bidder.
The Borders Rewards email list is the most valuable asset Borders has right now. The rest of the assets are pretty much crap. |

You people don't know what a readers desert Puerto Rico is it's even hard if not inpossible to find orinary comic books here especially let alone books with economy as it is now not even a decent library system the only bookstores here except some local books in old San Juan are religious booksstores what a disaster.

Huh boy, I hope this doesn't mean anything for the Borders in my part of town.
When I was younger I visited Puerto Rico (Aguadilla, on the west side), I really don't remember seeing any bookstores while I was there (except maybe at the airport), but then again I wasn't really looking.  You can always order manga on Amazon though, get at least $25 worth and the shipping's free... though it sucks that you can't really browse to see what you would like.

Hilco is a liquidator; that means that come December (should the liquidators win), Borders as a whole will not exist in it's current state. There might be a few bits here and there floating around in cyberspace and as tangible assets, but B&M Borders stores would be kaput. This is not barring the possibility that someone steps in and offers a bid to keep some stores open. But as it stands right now, it went from "Half of the stores might stay open, the rest are ****ed," to "Borders is completely ****ed." |

Aw geez, this really sucks. Though I guess I can't really complain too much since there's at least a couple of other decent bookstores around Louisville, but they just never seem to have the same selection of manga that the local Borders stores have.
Guess it just means that I'll have to scour the town a little better to see if there's any good shops I might have overlooked. 
But my greater concern is actually for all the people employed by Borders. I mean, think about it, after closing as many stores as they have they've already layed off/fired a ton of people, and it'll get a lot worse if the whole chain is liquidated. After all, liquidators generally are concerned with nothing more than how much money they can sell stuff for. Not to mention that Louisville had 6 Borders stores around. And now they've closed 3 or 4 of them, 2 of those being some of the ones I visited the most. 
But anyways, I certainly hope that someone manages to make a suitable bid with the intention of preserving at least most of the remaining stores. Unfortunately, with a liquidator group in the bidding lead right now, that possibility is starting to seem less and less likely. |

This doesn't effect me :/ The one Barnes and Noble closeby closed about a year ago (with Borders across the street) and all 3 nearby Borders then followed. The only bookstore in town is a Halfprice, and if you're a person who likes to support the devs (and like looking for new releases) then it's not really a choice. Oh, and the local comic store I believe is strictly comics-only :/
Yeah, my area is screwed for buying books PERIOD (let alone, manga). Unless I want to drive for a while to get somewhere... So yeah, I'm sort of forced to used Amazon/Rightstuf now. |

I just took a look at that link. It does sound rather bleak.
I can only imagine how stressful it must be to be a Borders employee right now. I hope that something can be worked out for their sake, because we really don't need to see a huge influx of people in the unemployment lines in this craptastic economy.

I don't get it!!
Why would Borders remove a bid from a bidder that wanted to keep the company and stores intact, putting the liquidators in the lead? Don't they WANT to stay open?

Not necessarily. Their first priority is probably to pay off their creditors. If they can do that by liquidating, then that's what they'll do. |
