I kinda dislike the ratings game. Certainly A18-34 is the most important demo for Cartoon Network, but it'd me nice to get ratings for the entire run of demographics.
Unfortunately the only way to get that is to fork over a very significant amount of money to Nielson... -t |

I still don't understand how ratings work, and I don't think I ever will. Especially since I don't see how they can assume how many people are watching a single tv, and what sex they are.
Example: My friends and I have a sort of tradition where we usually get drunk, and watch adult swim till we pass out. That's like... three females, and four males, 18-25. Happy to say though that the whole group loves FMA. GITS: SAC puts us to sleep though in that state. |

And if they're reading this, then...they are watching us watch them watch us. I was having a discussion the other day about how great it would be if, rather than buying a cable package, we go the pay-per-view route for each and every show/station we watch. How wonderful it would be to pay for the History Channel or Discovery without having to fork over cash for something I dub the "The Mother Angelica Show." Same thing with anime, forget the DBZ, I want my FMA. |

I think CN values K2/6-11 more than A18-34. Lance at FUNimation said they were going to put out an FMA specific PR detailing a bunch of demos. He did hint that for the teenage demos the shows were "quite impressive." |

The Nielsens work by taking a small sample of households which they feel represent the general population, and tracking their viewing habits with set-top boxes similar to a cable box. Since the Nielsen numbers are estimations, the numbers are never 100% accurate. Certain segments of the population (whether by race, age, region, or income level) may be under or over-represented. |

It's great to see Adult Swim keep pulling as the number-one late night block, and that is certain to continue not only because of Fullmetal Alchemist and GitS:SAC, but also because of the inevitable release of Family Guy season 4 once Fox screws up the marketing again and decides to cancel the show it was so desparate to get back to make more money. (In my opinion, Family Guy's fourth season should go to Adult Swim, the block that made it popular again, not that it was ever not popular.)

Actually, I'm not suprised that Adult Swim is doing better than a year ago, since it used to be only on Monday-Thursday late nights with the original material on Sunday. (I'm a 9-to-5 worker. I cannot stay up on weeknights for their other blocks. Please tell me I'm not alone on this, btw.)
After all, not many people in the 18-34 demographic probably stuck around to watch the kidified Saturday block. (I only tuned in for Ruroni Kenshin once in a while, Samurai Jack, and .hack//SIGN.) I cursed Cartoon Network when they took Adult Swim off of Saturdays. Once the Adult Swim Saturday returned, along with some great features such as Wolf's Rain, all-new InuYasha, the TV airing of R.O.D., and now FMA and GITS, who now isn't tuning in to the Saturday block? I've been tuning in to almost all of the block every Saturday since they reinstated the weekend anime.

When Saturday returned the ratings were awful (achieving 400,000 was only a dream), and the only way it could be saved was to put comedy programming as a lead in. It helped out a LOT. |

Saturday is also the least watched night of TV throughout US (and most of the western world too). Sunday on the other hand is the most watched... the fact the American programming is still what makes up AS is something to think about... anime hasn't caught on as much as people think.

As I said before, though:
That includes Sundays, unfortunately. I want to watch Witch Hunter Robin and the old InuYasha episodes, but real life (and earning money) tends to get in the way of that.

As a student, i usually have the time to watch it. Thought all but Full Metal Alchmeist and Ghost in the Shell are the only programs worth watching.
I would say it has attracted me, but not much, little attraction once so ever to me. |

Yeah, I think that is intended for the opposite gender. It's actually toned down from the movie where she ran around naked as the day she was, um..., constructed. I suppose the Japanese censors would never have gone for that on TV. Still, I don't think the show is too fan-servicy; it actually has a solid plot and interesting characters.
