IMO the series must be doing rather poorly for the author to make a public plea for support.

I would have bought if it was possible to order here in EU, without importing from Japan.

oh i dunno, how about presenting to fans a decent story as an incentive to buy stuff, instead of begging fans to buy something that they have already seen in how many other fan service shows?

I was actually expecting Dragon Crisis level (sub 2k combined sold per vol) of sales for Aria, so I was rather surprised seeing it break 6k.
As far as Denpa goes, SHAFT doesn't really care about home video sales (and with Bake and PMMM money, they don't really need it). If they want to do a sequel, then they will do a sequel. Which is why even after the poor sales of Arakawa and Natsu no Arashi's first seasons, a second season was made for both.

Correct those are decent sales for both series. They're on par with others that have got second seasons.

Or it could be just close enough that a little more would push it over.
I'd buy it if it came out over here.

Ditto. It's not a perfect series by any stretch of the imagination, but Aria is loads of fun and I'd be proud to have it as part of my collection. Especially if it meant that a continuation could be made.

Ah, moe shows are in danger of not getting a second season. Good news, but I still fear that they're going to get one.

People stop buying Aria NOW!
And would a second season of Denpa Onna have anything new? Shaft is always up with generic second seasons.

How about giving something, like, send your purchase ticket with a sales date between today and next month get a personalized password so you can talk to a phone number and hear a secret message from Erio.

I'm somehow convinced that a 2nd season of Denpa is already in the making and this is only a poor attempt to boost sales.
As others mentioned before, the sales figures are alright so far, not fantastic, but good enough to grant a 2nd season.
Besides, this is only the first volume being released and until the last volume drops, people could still discover this series or decide to start buying and all of a sudden, the whole situation looks differently, so that doesn't really tell much at the moment.
In case they will sell more due to the director's plea, he will be rubbing his hands in a Mr. Burns'esque way thinking, "Muahahaha, dance my puppets, dance!".

Hidan no Aria = 4,007 Blu-ray Discs and 2,349 DVDs.
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko = 5,267 Blu-ray Discs and 1,361 DVDs
WTF are they crying about??? Plenty enough motivation for a second season. Many shows have gotten second seasons with those kinds of figures and they'll be making a profit if they keep it up. The production committee must be pulling the author's legs or ours
