Jinta, you're so full of regret mate.
Anyway, lovely episode and a quite sad bit with Jinta's mom. Besides that I don't think anything else in particular stood out this episode. It's just... that snob is lying, ain't he? Or are we having a ghost per person? Hmm.

I have to say after watching the first 3 episodes of this show, i have become really interested in it. It seems to have a lot of potential, i also want to see how the character of Jinta and Yukiatsu develop together. They both seem to show two different ways of dealing with the grief of losing Menma. I think it would not be much of a stretch to say he dislikes Jinta due to his relationship with Menma. Also seeing his reaction to Jinta believing he is interacting with Menma, and Yukiatsu himself isnt, makes his character seem more competitive and interesting.

I think I can see where we're heading with the snob. As a child he was always jealous of Jinta and the way everyone surrounded him. Now's the same, heard from Poppo about his vision and that people were paying attention to Jinta again so he's trying to put the attention on himself. Also figure he has his own hidden secret, probably said something to Menma to make Jinta look bad, something he might feel contributed to her death but he blames Jinta instead.
I figure they all harbor their own little guilty secrets about what they said or did after Jinta let go with that outburst and left- everyone thinking they had something to do with the death.
Actually the whole guilt and redemption plot seems a little predictable, what will prove this show as good or bad is how it's handled. and maybe whatever it is that allowed Menma to come back.
And gotta love how our conversation on whether she was a ghost was echoed slightly in the show- that Menma doesn't believe she's a ghost.

I do wonder what Menma sees herself as, she clearly knows she is dead, due to her interactions with her family and what not. And we know she is not imaginary and can interact with her environment due to knocking the glass over, and Anaru being able to sense an added weight on her shoulders at the beginning of the first episode. I do think that most of the kids believe they are guilty for what happened to her that night, and have not been able to forgive themselves for it. We still dont know the circumstances of her death, so one of them could have seen it happen and blames themselves for her death.

Some speculation I've seen from a few people... is that he might've confessed to her and her reaction caused her to fall off that bridge (the one in the OP)... remember she likes to dangerously walk on railings...

The feeling I got is that Yukiatsu is trying to put to rest this whole "I saw Menma" thing going on. Since he said he saw her by the stream, my guess is that he made a shrine/grave down there since that's where she died, and he's going to use that to show them that's she's not "here". He seemed unusually smug since he clearly doesn't like talking to "those people", especially Jinta, but he was fine with letting everyone know he saw her at her grave.
I do agree, though, that Yukiatsu is jealous of Jinta, but I don't think he's trying to become the center of attention at this moment. I just think he's tired of people throwing around the name of the woman he loved when she's dead, especially since he's having a hard time coping with it even now (the dress sniffing...).

How much you want to bet that the Menma 2.0 that Poppo saw is Yukiatsu in drag? Something's not right with that boy.

You know, that's not completely absurd. The ghost Poppo saw was wearing a watch, and Yukiatsu is the only flat chested person in the cast that wears one. Tsuroko wears a watch too (I guess it's part of the school uniform since they're the same watch), but the ghost was flat, unlike her. The mom -who I thought it was- doesn't seem to wear one either, and she's also quite endowed. So it could be him.
It's like you said, Yukiatsu isn't right in the head.

That does kind of make sense, we have already seen he has the white dress she used to have. I had not even considered that possibility.

Oi! Would never have thought of that in a million years, but it does make a certain effed up sense. Maybe Menma's wish is for Yukiatsu to stop being such a psycho?

What are you talking about? Kazakiri isn't a ghost.

Not the same thing at all.

Senna is a collection of memories. Not one single human in a body. Also, she didn't really die either.

Haruhi Suzumiya, I'm not sure what's real in that anime. |
That's not even an example you gave. |
that's why i mean, they are not ghost, but not real either. you guys ask for anime that have fake stuffs. No anime is going to be 100% the same. Just like no anime is going to be like DBZ. you can give example of Naruto or bleach, but they are not the same.
You guys keep want to ague about little detail stuffs.
All i'm saying is i'm not 100% convinced if the "Menma" is truthly a ghost since this is an anime. The writer can come up with alot of random stuffs. By the way, i never said she is not a ghost. I just said i don't know.
I have watch anime long enough to know that what i saw at the beginning is not always the truth.
There could be two Menma too if they wanted to do it.

She seems to be a ghost, but it's true that it's not 100% sure that she is a ghost. A ghost is the spirit of a dead person, we don't know for sure that is what she is. All we know is:
1. She believes herself to be Menma (although she does sometimes talk of her living form in the third person).
2. She can interact in minor ways with the real world, although in some cases we can't be sure that those interactions aren't just in Jinta's head (for example did she really eat stuff, or was that just him?)
3. She seems to have a "life of her own", running off and doing things that Jinta is unaware of himself, so it's unlikely that she's some sort of hallucination mixed with TK on his part.
If she's not a ghost, the other options would be some kind of alien mimicking her form for some inexplicable reason (highly unlikely), or perhaps some sort of gestalt psychic manifestation between those that remember her. Ghost is by far the most likely though.

I take it nobody thought about angels? You know, if she looks like one, she likely is.
Good old storytelling. Die, go to heaven, and then is sent back as an angel with partial amnesia and a goal to accomplish before being rewarded. In this case, she'll "fix" the brigade and regain her life. That's it, everybody happy.

This anime is great, was a lot better than i expected and got better i watched more episodes, Its probably going to be one of those anime i revisit multiple times after i finish watching it, like i did with clannad, shuffle, Oreimo, and a few others.
Theres one thing im waiting to find out. Is the Menma that Yukiatsu says he can see the same one Yadomi can see or a completely different "spirit" (assuming he's not lying about seeing her), because in the first Ep he would have seen her if they can see the same Menma, or would it be that he couldn't before and now he can. And another thing whats with the white dress in Yukiatsu's closet that he was smelling, Isn't that just a little bit wierd?

the most mystery part for me is why she only appeared recently. Where the hell was she hiding all this time. She could be an angel, who knows. It's up to the writer.
I hope it;s like Tasogare Otome x Amnesia. there are two ghost(or whatever) that look the same.
