Why wouldn't you want to start from the beginning of the show? You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you started watching Reborn with the first episode of the first arc. Those beginning episodes are good for building your relationships with the characters.

they wont tell me cause they want me to start at the beginning, so it would help a lot and who knows, it might get me to rewatch the eps that i haven't seen if i get into it

If you didn't like the introductory episodes, I'm not sure if jumping into the "tournament" episodes will solve anything. Watch something you like instead- there's lots of other anime out there, so spend your time on something you don't find boring instead, and let your friends have fun with their Reborn fandom on their own, and share in fandoms with them that you both like instead.

If you really want to get in it read the manga first. The beginning will be the same as the anime where the characters are getting to know each other.

You will get to the good part around Chapter 61 when you meet the Kokukyo Gang and then it heads to the Varia Arc which is a very good arc, and then the Future Arc.

I know many people have been turned away from the series because the beginning is so slow and tasteless but it will get better after you pass that part considering my friend was the exact same way until she got to the action and it's one of her favorite series which I'm happy I got her into. So just hang in there anyway you go and I promise it will get really good ^^

I was surprised when watching the anime that even the filler was fairly enjoyable. I would advise you to start watching from the first episode. As mentioned before you connect with the characters, which I really did more than I have done with other series. One of my only gripes was that further through the series up to 10 minuets of an episode would be taken up by recapping previous events but skipping past that, especially if you are watching one after another, you can speed through a fare few episode in on sitting.

The manga is worth picking up, obviously because it carries on further than the anime.
