I haven't played a Pokemon game since Gold and Silver (on the gameboy). My friend did give me Crystal, but it was broken and lacked the ability to save.. so I don't count it.
I'd assume that repetition of the same game over and over again would drain any series of it's luster, but I'm still hearing good things about these games. Is it worth picking up?

Black and White are something of a reboot. The region is supposed to be very far away from the old ones. There are about as many new Pokemon as were in the original set. Until you finish the main story, you will not even see a Pokemon from previous generations... unless you activate an event, but that doesn't count. My point is that if you used to like Pokemon games and have thought about trying it out again, these are the games to do that with.

The 3DS is supposed to release roughly 2 weeks after B and W's release
