Quote: | Hiroshi Hasegawa, the 59-year-old president of Studio DEEN, is self-financing an anime retelling of local Japanese folklore to honor a promise to his wife Michiko, who passed away in May. |
Quote: | Hasegawa plans to sponsor the free distribution of the anime to educational and social institutions. |
Two thumbs up!

My ladylove and I bawed to death at this.... I wish him nothing
but luck. This is just the sweetest thing I've heard come from
the anime industry in a while, and shows there are still
some genuine kind souls left in this wonderful trade.

I agree, that's the sweetest thing I've ever heard of, especially since anime is not cheap to make in Japan, I'll watch it legally too, I want to see the story that came from his wife's hometown.

Couldn't have said it any better myself, comrade.
I completely agree.
I hope something like this happens one day for Keiko Tobe. Her With The Light series touched my heart like few books - let alone comics - have ever done before.

They'd better be good though, can't see the point in wasting money animating something if it's not worth it.

Even if this anime turned out terrible, you know there was some thought behind this anime other than "what size breasts should we put on this 13 year old"? I really respect the notion of having SOME sort of emotion behind your anime.

An educational anime about regional foklore, in a country with a rich tradition of folklore, has got to be interesting. Whether or not it's perfect doesn't really matter, either. Sometimes the intent and emotions behind a project can be just as important as the project itself. Considering the circumstances, I'm sure he'll make it the best series he can.
