It looks like I've triggered an algorithm that has identified me as someone who consistently tries to manipulate the percentages either up or down. Oh, well.....

I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

    EDIT: 2020-12-31
I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?
EDIT: 2020-04-11
In this video YouTube user Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho) talks about SAO in the context of gateway anime.
2 Videos That Share a Common Theme:
  1. "The Greatest Thing Anime Has Done"|Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho)
  2. "A Love Letter to a Place Further than the Universe" | Isla McTear (Line/link added 2020-06-24)

Seen/Read All (public list) Rating
Fate/Grand Order: Moonlight/Lostroom (special) Very good
Although it's basically a 30-minute info. dump, I have changed my mind about my rating for it. Initially, I was going to rate it at 8/11 (good); but both the beginning and the ending neatly bookend each other. Therefore, I will rate it at 9/11 (very good).
Fate/Prototype (OAV) Very good
Read Kim Morrissy's essay.
Fate/stay night (TV) Good
Fate/stay night TV reproduction (OAV) Excellent

Nice OP/ED!
"trying to understand the fate series"|Gigguk

"So You Wanna Watch The Fate Series? - Starter Pack"|Get In The Robot

"In Defense of Deen/Stay Night (A Newcomer's Guide to Fate)"|Glass Reflection Tristan "Arkada" Gallant

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (movie) Good
Fate/Zero (TV) Excellent

Fate/Zero (TV 2) Excellent
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie) So-so
Fireworks, Should We See it from the Side or the Bottom? (movie) Not really good (dub), Excellent (sub)

44:00- a seemingly erotic scene.....
47:15- symbolism

get the OST
read novel
The ending is over my head.
08:08 symbolism evoking lighthouses
10:46 contrasting reactions

Pros: great graphics!
Nice OST!
More symbolism than you can shake a stick at.....

    Cons:
  1. What's the movie about?
  2. Does the symbolism actually mean anything?
  3. What does the ending signify?
  • Needs to be watched twice!
  • Watched the 1st five minutes of the dub (need to watch more) and one of the lines has its meaning changed.
I'm rating this 6/11 'till I rewatch it! Also, watch the dub.
First Squad - The Moment Of Truth (OAV) Very good (dub & sub)
Would have rated it higher, but the OAV ends abruptly; as though there is more to the story that is not being told. Also, a tolerance for art-house films is required. You have been warned.
Voice Direction: Alex von David
FLCL (OAV) Excellent
It's a classic Studio Gainax production..... That should tell you everything right there.

See this Adult Swim posting for a comprehensive analysis. [The previous two links are dead. :-( ]

YouTube (akidearest) analysis

Flip Flappers (TV) Excellent

  • ep.#2 had me grinning from ear to ear
  • ep.#3 had me groaning for the most part -- did the screenwriter not know where he wanted to go with this series?
  • This series is very obviously allegorical much in the same was as FLCL (OAV) is.
  • Nice OP and nice EDs.
Flying Witch (TV) Very good (dub & sub)
slice-of-life
I gave up on this series after episode #6 because I, quite frankly, found it boring.
Will try watching one ep./day.
    • Chito-san (black "lucky" cat) becomes Chito-senpai.
    • Herb gathering on the mountain side.
    • I forgot just how beautiful the animation is.....
    • 10:00 Mildly amusing humor.....
    • 10:59 More of the same.....
    • 2nd ½: Going to a café (witch is proprietor, ghost is waitress)
    • 10 sec. epilogue
    • OST is OK.....
    • The dub is actually quite good! Shannon Reed was the ADR director.....
  1. More reactions at the café.
    • Fortune-telling in the 1st ½.
    • 12:50─Symbolism
    • Gardening in the 2nd ½.
  2. Cooking lessons
    Work in the apple orchard
  3. Is that whale CGI?

  4. What a relaxing OST to end the series with.....

For Whom the Alchemist Exists (movie) Masterpiece
So why did I rate this at 11/11? Because the protagonist uses her empathy to heal. PERIOD. What's there not to love about that?
Frakenstein Family (TV) Excellent

When watching this series it is necessary to remember the principles of cultural anthropology. Remember that Japanese culture emphasizes conformity to a toxic extreme. "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down."
ep.#6| This episode puts the series in SERIOUS territory. 11/11!!!
ep.#7| Continues where #6 left off. 11/11
ep.#8| The landlord continues to bond with the children.
ep.#9| Brother Snow becomes severely ill.
ep.#10|Tanis is crushed by the thought that Sumire loves Snow.
ep.#11| Tanis now has to rely on the only two adults that he can trust.
I was going to rate this series at 11/11, but it is nothing more than an extended commercial for the manga!!! It turns out the manga was only two volumes long. Rating at 10/11 because I like both the OP & ED
