The official website for Anime Expo announced on Thursday that it will host director Tensai Okamura as a guest of honor at the event.
Okamura worked as an animator and episode director at Madhouse before debuting as a director with the "Stink Bomb" short as part of the 1995 Memories anthology film. Okamura has since directed such series as Darker than Black, Wolf's Rain, The Seven Deadly Sins, Blue Exorcist, World Conquest Zvezda Plot, and Kuromukuro. He has also directed the Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow film.
Anime Expo and SCRAP are also hosting a Final Fantasy XIV-themed "Trials of Bahamut – Real Escape Game" during the convention. The game is a puzzle-based game instead of an escape room.
Shueisha and Dai Nippon Printing announced on Thursday that they will host several VR experiences at Anime Expo as part of the "Japan Character VR Matsuri." Attendees will be able to play the One Piece Cube and JUMP Cube VR game for Oculus Rift+Touch, and the JUMP Art Gallery and Death Note VR Escape Game for Gear VR.
This year's Anime Expo convention will run from July 1 to July 4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. In addition, the convention will formally include a preview night a day before on June 30.
