Indonesian film distributor Kaninga Pictures announced during a press conference last Thursday that it will screen a total of 22 films by Studio Ghibli in Indonesia for its "The World of Ghibli" event. The distributor did not specify whether the films will screen with the previously five announced films, or at a later date.
Kaninga Pictures previously announced that it will hold a screening of five films from Studio Ghibli from April to September (excluding June during Ramadan) in cooperation with cinema chain Cinema 21, and Hakuhodo DY.
Spirited Away already began screening on Saturday, and will screen until Friday. My Neighbor Totoro will screen from May 1-7, Ponyo will screen from July 1-7, Princess Mononoke will screen from August 1-7, and Howl's Moving Castle will screen from September 1-7.
All screenings will take place at 45 Cinema 21 theaters in 17 cities across Indonesia. Tickets can already be pre-ordered on the event website.
The last Studio Ghibli film to have a wide opening in Indonesia was Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises in March 2014.
