Yen Press Announces New Novel Acquisition: Weathering With You

NEW YORK, NY (10/24/2019) – Yen Press, LLC announced today the acquisition of the Weathering With You novel by author and director Makoto Shinkai, creator of global phenomenon your name.

Originally published by KADOKAWA BUNKO one day prior to the Japanese theatrical release, Weathering With You follows Japanese high school student Hodaka, who runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo the summer of his freshman year. He quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits, the unusually rainy weather seeming to suggest a gloomy future. He lives his days in isolation but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability—the power to stop the rain and clear the sky.

A moving and inspirational work, the Weathering With You film has already found global success. The movie earned $15.22 million in its first three days, surpassing your name. in initial sales, and GKids has announced an English release of the film in the United States for early 2020.

Written by director Makoto Shinkai during the production of the film, Weathering With You is in turns heartwarming, mystical, and heartbreaking as it follows Hodaka and Hina's journey toward love, happiness, and peace.

Weathering With You is slated for a release on December 17th, 2019 both in hardcover and digitally.
