London Anime Con Brings Video Game Tournaments and Leading Figures in Gaming to Islington

Popular anime convention expands to include a dedicated Gamer's Day that will raise money for GamesAid, bringing two interconnected worlds together on 20th and 21st June.

London, 31st May 2013 – London Anime Con has today announced an expanded video game presence at this year's event, bringing the worlds of anime, cosplay and gaming together for two days in Islington, London, in aid of the video game industry charity, GamesAid.

For the past 3 years, London Anime Con has entertained fans from both London and all over the UK's South East and Home Counties areas. Fans of Japanese Anime, Cosplay, Manga, Karaoke, TCGing, Video Games and J-Culture will come together to celebrate their passion by meeting celebrity voice talent, costuming, enjoying the live events, browsing the exhibitors hall and much more over this two-day event.

During Sunday's ‘Gamer's Day’, tournaments will take place in six key areas; Fight Game Zone (including Street Fighter IV and Ultimate Marvel v CAPCOM 3 organised by Electronic Dojo) , FirstPerson Shooters, Sports (such as the ever-popular FIFA tournament), Music, Mainstream (including Smash and Mario Kart) and Retro. The Music Zone includes London Anime Con's unique DDR Sight Reading Tournament, and retro gamers will be stoked to see Goldeneye 64 in the line-up.

Celebrity voice talent at the event will include Mike Pollock, known as the voice of Dr Eggman and David Vincent, who has appeared in Super Street Fighter IV, the Tekken series of games and also in BlazBlue.

Visitors can also enjoy a wide range of exhibitors and sponsors, such as GAME, Namco-Bandai, Zen United, Konami, FragRadio and Insomnia Gaming Festival.

In partnership with PS3 Attitude, the philanthropic PlayStation news and reviews website, London Anime Con will include a number of fund-raising elements to help raise much-needed donations for GamesAid, the video game industry charity. These will include ‘donate-to-play’ areas, a cosplay competition and a GamesAid Charity Auction.

In addition, ‘Gamer's Day’ will feature the ability to play Namco Bandai's Tales of Xillia on the PS3 weeks ahead of the game's official launch. To celebrate, this year's Charity Cosplay event will be themed around the franchise.

“We're really happy to be working with London Anime Con to make Gamer's Day an integral part of the event and help raise money for GamesAid”, says DolphGB, Editor-in-Chief and Founder of PS3 Attitude. “The bonds that tie anime, J-culture and video games together mean the event just makes sense for all of our readers – we just had to get involved”, he continues.

“London Anime Con has grown massively over the last x years and we're pleased to be expanding it further to include all elements of anime, video gaming and cosplay. Including a Gamer's Day in the event schedule was a great way to bring everything together, and supporting a great charity like GamesAid is the icing on the cake. We'd like to also thank Namco Bandai for their support and allowing visitors to play Tales of Xillia well before the general public”, explains Michael Towers, organiser of London Anime Con.

The event takes place in Islington, London on 20th and 21st June 2013. Tickets for London Anime Con can be bought directly from http://www.londonanimecon.com/.
