MechaCon Returns to New Orleans, La. in September
NEW ORLEANS – After seven successful annual conventions since 2005, MechaCon returns to the Hilton New Orleans Riverside on the weekend of September 7-9, 2012 with an all-new event dubbed MechaCon VIII.
Centrally located along the I-10 corridor between San Antonio, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida, New Orleans will again serve as the host city for MechaCon. Being a convention held in the "Crescent City," MechaCon is easily accessible for fans from not only Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama, but also for fans from the entire southeastern United States region, ranging from the Carolinas to Oklahoma.
Confirmed attendees at previous MechaCons included fans from all over North America, including areas as far away as Mexico, Canada, Washington state, California, New York and more, making MechaCon a well-attended event from all fronts.
MechaCon presents a broad range of entertainment in their 2012 schedule. The event proudly offers a variety of electronic gaming opportunities in their 24-hour Electronic Gaming Room ranging from MechCorps' Battletech simulator pods to Zero Limits Arcade's cabinet games to Supercon 2K Series' console gaming and tournaments. MechaCon is also excited to welcome back New Orleans' own +1 Gaming to their table-top gaming lineup. Looking for something a little more physically involved? Sleeping Samurai returns with 24-hour interactive foam-based combat entertainment. In addition, MechaCon also offers a variety of events including their Formal/Semi-formal Opening Ceremonies Dinner, MechaCon's Red Carpet Affair ball, the annual Cosplay Competition, musical concert, MechaCon House Party, Cosplay Chess and the annual Charity Auction benefitting the NOLA Japan Quake Fund. For the merchandise and artistic-minded, MechaCon offers a large Dealer's Room, where attendees can purchase a variety of fandom-related merchandise, and a sizeable Artists Alley, where artisans present their work to attendees for purchase and fan groups share the latest and greatest from their respective fandoms.
Also slated for the 2012 convention is an impressive lineup of voice and entertainment industry guests including Richard Epcar, Todd Haberkorn, Samantha Inoue-Harte, Jonathan Klein, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Vic Mignogna, Daran Norris, Wendy Powell & Ellyn Stern. MechaCon will also be a return stop on Harmony Gold's Robotech Convention Tour 2012, where MechaCon welcomes Robotech back for the latest news on the ongoing domestic anime phenomenon.
MechaCon is also proud to present Jason David Frank, best known for his role as Tommy Oliver in the long-running TV show POWER RANGERS, as a featured guest. Jason morphed into a series of different rangers over the years: Mighty Morphin' Green and White, Red Zeo, Red Turbo, and then returned in 2004 as the Black Dino Thunder Ranger. All in all, ‘Tommy’ appeared in more episodes than any other character, 225 in total, and appeared in both full-length movies, MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE (1995) and TURBO: A POWER RANGERS MOVIE (1997).
