Anime Fans Give Back to Japan: 24 Hour Fundraiser for Japan Begins March 10
NEW YORK, NY - February 18th, 2012 - The anime community came together one year ago and raised over $30,000 to support the people of Japan in their time of need. This year the anime community is coming together again for a second "Anime Fans Give Back" marathon to raise awareness for the victims of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. We will be running a 24-hour podcasting marathon live on Ustream and on the website (http://animefansgiveback.com) starting March 10th at 5:00PM EST and running through 6:00PM EST on March 11th. We are looking to raise over $20,000 for a $50,000 total over the last year through GlobalGiving (http://globalgiving.org) for those in Japan. Here are just a few of the guests that will be joining us this year:
J. Michael Tatum
Wendee Lee
Terri Doty
Stephen Hoff
Steven Blum
Patrick Seitz
Christopher R. Sabat
Mike McFarland
Micah Solusod
Michelle Ruff
Jessica Straus
Maile Flanagan
Cristina Vee
Sarah Williams
Christine Marie Cabanos
Clarine Harp
R Bruce Elliott
Crispin Freeman
Spike Spencer
and more...
We are also working with Anime News Network and the ANNCast, Anime Expo Live, The AniManga Podcast, Daizenshuu EX, Chainsaw Buffet, That Anime Show, and many others in an effort to bring attention to the continued need for those in Japan.
Proceeds will go to the donor's choice of two GlobalGiving drives. The "Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund" goes to disaster recovery and long-term relief for the victims of the tsunami and earthquake. The "Help Orphans in Japan Rebuild Lives Post-Tsunami" drive, operated by "Smile Kids Japan" helps buy material support for children orphaned by last year's disaster.
ABOUT ANIME FANS GIVE BACK TO JAPAN - Anime Fans Give Back to Japan was started by The One Piece Podcast and a conglomeration of many other podcasts in an effort to bring together the anime community to help victims of the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. The 2011 event raised well over $30,000 over the course of the week, most of it during the 24 hour event. The organization has also garnered significant press in the United States and Japan.
