El Segundo, CA – (August 17, 2009) – More than 460 Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) Duelists showed off their battling skills with the ultimate goal to be crowned the 70thth SHONEN JUMP Champion during Gen Con Indy 2009. Luna, from Arlington, TX, out-battled the field to claim the coveted title and qualify for the 2010 U.S. National Championship.
“Fili Luna displayed sound strategies and smart game play that propelled him to win the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's TRADING CARD GAME SHONEN JUMP Championship at Gen Con Indy 2009,” noted Yumi Hoashi, vice president of Card Business for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “Gen Con Indy with its rich gaming history is an amazing place to hold the SHONEN JUMP Championship. We also rewarded each participant with five packs of Crimson Crisis, which allows Duelists to upgrade their decks and packs of Raging Battle just for entering the competition.”
Fili Luna went deck-to-deck with Matt Hoey (Kenosha, WI) for the title after two days of dueling. Both came prepared to win with competitive decks - Luna wielding a Blackwings themed deck and Hoey packing a Synchro Cat, respectively, were ready for a grueling match. Fili Luna and his peers took home prize packs that included such items as a Dark End Dragon SHONEN JUMP Championship Prize Card, a Top 16 SJC game mat, popular personal video game console with Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Stardust Accelerator World Championship 2009, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Wheelie Breakers, a 32 GB personal music player with codes to download Konami Mobile Games, and complimentary subscriptions to SHONEN JUMP magazine. Luna will also receive a paid trip to their respective National Championships in 2010, courtesy of Konami Digital Entertainment.
In addition to Luna and Hoey, the top 16 finalists from the SHONEN JUMP Championship at Gen Con Indy 2009 along with the top eight Duelists from the Sunday Regional, qualify to participate in the 2010 U.S. National Championship.
