MADMAN ENTERTAINMENT LAUNCHES FIRST ANNUAL
NATIONAL COSPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Madman Entertainment is proud to announce the launch of Australia's first National Cosplay Championship. The prestigious competition will roll out nationally from March 2008
The National Cosplay Championship will be officially launched in Melbourne on 27 March at the Supanova pop culture expo. Preliminary rounds will be held in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth throughout 2009, culminating in a national final in Melbourne in November (date and venue TBC). The grand prize winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to Japan - home of Cosplay.
Cosplay or Costume Play is a pop culture phenomenon in which aficionados gather in groups, dressed in elaborate - usually handmade - costumes inspired by characters or themes from their favourite anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comic books), graphic novels and video games.
Already a vibrant national pastime in Japan, Cosplay's popularity within Australia has grown steadily over the last 10 years, with thousands of committed players taking part in dozens of events and conventions every year. To date there has never been a chance for Australian Cosplayers to compete against each other at a national level - until now!
