Koji Kondo to attend Chicago world-premiere
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 15, 2006 - JMP Productions announced today that Nintendo's famous video game composer Koji Kondo is going to attend the world-premiere of PLAY! A Video Game Symphony on May 27, 2006, in Chicago at the Rosemont Theatre. His attendance includes some exciting surprises for his fans to be revealed at a later time. PLAY! A Video Game Symphony is a symphony concert world-tour featuring music from a catalogue of blockbuster video game titles, including exclusive arrangements of SUPER MARIO BROS. and THE LEGEND OF ZELDA series, originally composed by Koji Kondo.
Koji Kondo is one of the most highly-acclaimed video game music composers in the world. His songs are certainly memorable; the SUPER MARIO BROS. theme song is still a mainstream icon 20 years after it was written and about as recognized as a 1980's pop song. Kondo's music has been cited as being as integral to the Nintendo style as the game design of Shigeru Miyamoto.
The Rosemont Theatre hosts many of the top cultural events in the Chicago area, including lavish Broadway Musicals, world class entertainers, and the renowned Chicagoland Pops Orchestra all set in a luxurious 4,400 seat theatre with 100% unobstructed views of the stage. The 2-hour program produced by Jason Michael Paul, will be conducted by Grammy award winning Arnie Roth, music director and principal conductor of the Chicagoland Pops. This concert is presented by the orchestra in association with JMP Productions.
Says Jason Michael Paul, producer of PLAY! A Video Game Symphony: "To have Kondo-san participate in our premiere is truly the icing on the cake! I would have never imagined that when I was playing Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda as a kid that I would be doing a concert 20 years later with Kondo-san present to take part in a video game music concert featuring his music. Our event promises to be the most memorable concert ever.".
